I would be interested to hear if anyone has compared the Thriller SACD to the remastered CD. Does anyone know if the SACD uses older remastering? Thriller is one of Sony's early SACDs, and the artwork is identical to the original CD (no tiger on the cover, no extra tracks, etc.). I wonder if Sony is going to issue a remastered SACD, by chance, or if the SACD already uses the newer remastering technology that went into the new CD. I seem to recall a press release regarding Michael Jackson remasters a couple of months back that said that the remasters would be well-suited for transfer to SACD. Maybe that means a new SACD version of Thriller is in the works?

I saw a magazine on the newsstand the other day that showed a picture of Michael circa the Jackson 5 days and today. Egad! His face looks so taut now that it looks like it will tear if he smiles. If he laughs, forget about it. And that snub nose is helping matters either.

Say what you want about the man, but the remasters sure do sound GREAT!!
I also am interested in a comparison between the SACD remaster and the recent CD remaster. Either way, I am very happy with the way the rereleases came out.

Ok guys. As "outstandingly funny" as it is to make cracks about Michael Jackson's skin color I was really wondering how the new remasters sound. I own Dangerous, Thriller, and Bad and love them but if the new remasters sound that much better I'd gladly buy them again. I'm wondering how they could make Dangerous sound any better.
If someone who owns one of them or all of them could give us a little comparison I'd be really happy. Thanks.

The remasters sound wayyy better than the originals. Just for reference listen to origanl Billie Jean then the remastered Billie Jean. Notice the extra pop and cleaniness to the remaster. No longer the dull thud of the kick and snare.
Don't bother with Dangerous. The whole album was digital master to begin with and I can't tell the difference with the remastered version
Off The Wall Thriller and Bad are the ones to get.
PS - I wish they'd make HIStory a one disc version. How the hell you gonna make a greatest hits on a sorry disc. When 50 million people already own the 1st four, HIStory was an automatic no seller.

I have the same question about not just Thriller but also Off the Wall, Bad and Dangerous. Seems to me that these remasters are cash cow releases: Sony has debuted SACD, but still wants to milk the "Red Book" market.
Why else would Sony not release an Invincible SACD--the first album in six year's by the label's biggest selling artist--day-and-date with the standard CD?

Darryl,
You have me very interested in the remastered CDs. I am going to have to check them out.
Paul,
In my opinion, Sony would be stupid not to release more Michael Jackson SACDs. I too am surprised that they did not release Invincible on SACD along with the CD. Sony has released CDs and SACDs simultaneously (or within a few weeks of each other if you get technical). Examples include Aerosmith Just Push Play and the new Billy Joel album. Anyway, Michael Jackson Invincible is a no-brainer for SACD, as are the rest of his albums.

The recent CD remasters are waaaaay better than the originals. The orginal Thriller, Off The Wall, and Bad releases sound extremely thin in comparison....lack of bass and crispness. There is so much more depth and clarity. When I first popped in the remasters, it was as if I was listening to them for the first time all over again. I was grinning for hours. They are well worth the money spent. Some of the extras are interesting as well...particularly the demo of Billie Jean and the complete Vincent Price "rap" on the Thriller remaster.

Cool! I'll have to pick up Thriller at least, probably Off the Wall as well.
Now if only he'd let go of the Beatles catalog so that they could get the same treatment...

I own one Michael Jackson disc (1991s dangerous) and have always wanted to get Bad. Thriller has never done anything for me, especially after looking at a sprawling Michael with his kitty in an above post.
Now that Bad has been remastered and sounds good, its time to hear one of my favs "Dirty Diana". Oh yes!
