I was just considering how bizzarre the world can seem at time. Actually one particular thought has struck me as humerous, so I've decided to share.

The licensing issues between MGM and Warner are, as most people know, complex. But there is one particular issue that I find more than a little funny.

The unnoficial Bond movie, Never Say Never Again, a Warner Brothers film, is on DVD courtesy of MGM, owners of the official Bond movies. (do you suppose Warner now owns the right again?)

Can anyone else think of any equally bizzare licensing deals?

I think MGM bought back the film (along with buying Casino Royale from Columbia) to "complete" the collection of Bond movies. They even own the kinescoped TV movie of Casino Royale.

Looks like Warner will have it again once the buyout is complete.

Has it become certain that Warner is acquiring MGM? I haven't seen any news since the "early talks" of two weeks ago.

Never Say Never Again isn't part of MGM's Bond collection. It doesn't even say "James Bond" or 007 anywhere on the cover. Even stranger is that the MGM logo isn't located anywhere on the packiging either. I think they got it when it became the property of the defunct Orion's catalog somehow.

I thought it was a nice release but MGM still looks at it as the Black Sheep film since there are no extras besides the trailer, compared to the loaded EON produced Bond film discs.

So, does anyone think Warner Bros might give this a special edition? That would be nice. It's their Bond movie after all.

I don't think we'll see a special edition for a black sheep like this..

I got all the Special Edition information I wanted for Never Say Never Again from the Thunderball, Spy Who Loved Me, and Octopussy documentaries. I don't know what they could really do except a LONG documentary about the McClory/Fleming/Broccoli legal issues. Maybe some info about the failed Warhead 2001 project.
