MGM will be re-releasing 7 of the James Bond special edition DVDs this fall. Dr. No, GoldenEye, Goldfinger, License to Kill, The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and Tomorrow Never Dies on 10/22, each with be $19.98 (they were previously $34.98). A box set will also be available at $124.96. These will be the same special edition packages that were put on moratorium in 2001. MGM will reissue another new wave of the titles each fall until 2004. The newest Bond film, Die Another Day, will be in theaters on November 22. No word yet on the release dates of the other Bond titles.

If they didn't take the time and care to finally restore the classic Bond films, then they are a definite no-buy for me.

I agree. Many of the earlier titles show much wear, such as dirt, grain and other problems. Even the soundtrack could be remstered. Perhaps somewhere down the road.

    Great news,

I begun buying them just before they got on moratorium and therefor didn't have the chance to complete the collection. Good thing that the packages are same aswell. But best of all is the price reduction since they were a bit expensive earlier.

I just want both versions of Casino Royale...the 1967 Peter Sellers parody version as well as the serious 1954 edition made for the "Climax!" television series, starring Barry Nelson as 007.

Really, we were promised at least one of these back when Never Say Never Again came out...what's the dang holdup? I say that, with the re-release of the other DVD's, it is time for Bond enthusiasts to finally complete their collections!

I just hope the correct the errors on some titles in what was once the second wave box set. I got box 1 and 3, but skipped 2 because of this.

I also hope they would include subtitles at least, but I guess that hoping for too much.

all this will do is drive up the prices on ebay, and help the bootleggers.

Any word on whether they will fix On Her Majesty's Secret Service? They said they would, and would offer replacements...
Wasnt' there one other that needed fixing?

I purchased the three sets when they were on hold. When they come back into print, will they offer replacements again. I never got a chance to replace any of them, and I think there were 5.

    Octopussy
    Licence to Kill
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service

and I don't remember the other two. I think one was The Man with the Golden Gun.

I'm sure they will change the artwork on the boxes.
Also I'm sure they will remove the ads for the Tomorrow Never Dies Playstion game too.

I'll buy the post 2004 set I'm sure if they are re-done. It's a relief not to have to pick them up again. Glad they are down in price for those who haven't picked them up. Aside from a few problems, I really thought these DVD's were well done and are worth the money. They did a great job with the documentaries for the films. I would like to see more studios take this approach for films.
The Brosnan films didn't have documentaries on the films. I'm hoping they will eventually. Would like to know more about the time between License to Kill and Goldeneye.

And you can always get the R2 David Niven Casino Royale....that's what I did, since I'm guessing the Broccoli interests or whoever owns them won't allow it to be released here by MGM.

    Nathan,
on the two DVDs MGM did offer replacements for (Octopussy and The Living Daylights) the subtitles were missing. On the License to Kill there's a bit of badly unsynchronized audio/video and on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service there's some missing footage and another bit of unsynchronized A/V.

Never Say Never again was the other defective one. Fixed copies could be noted in stores by looking at the white security sticker along the top edge. If the title on it said ***NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN*** (with the title inside three asterisks on each side), then it was the fixed version.

The defect with it was losing some footage around the layer change, IIRC.

I'm not sure about the UK one, but the R4 appears to be anamorphic. It's cheaper too.

Thanks for the link to the Barry Nelson CASINO ROYALE!!

Been looking for this for a while now.

Will it only be available through Spy Guise? It does say exclusive.
