My local Big Lots store just got a huge display full of MGM titles for $3 each.

Some good stuff to be found if you dig including the 2006 Deluxe Edition of "Guys & Dolls", several Midnight Movies, all the classic Pink Panther films, several Sidney Poitier classics, and various other catalog titles and a few newer releases (including both the original and remake of "The Amityville Horror").

I picked up 12.

At $3 each, it's cheaper than renting at Blockbuster.

Big Lots has had quite a few good DVD deals recently from MGM, HBO, and Universal. I got the "Angels in America" set for $3 a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the heads up. I rarely go to Big Lots, but I'll stop by and see if my local store has any.

Thanks for the heads up, I've found some great finds at Big Lots. (Sidekicks, OOP) and this seems like a great addition. ;0

My local Big Lots did not have any of the MGM titles, but I managed to pick up several other exciting titles for $3 including "Sketches of Frank Ghery" & "Auto-Focus"

Y Tu Mama Tambien (edited R-rated)
Prizzi's Honor
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978/first release)
The Woman in Red

The Pink Panther Strikes Again
Revenge of the Pink Panther
Trail of the Pink Panther
The Flamingo Kid
Miami Blues
Semi-Tough
Breaking In
The Aviator (Christopher Reeve)
Flawless (DeNiro)
City of Ghosts
Soul Plane
Scanners
Pieces of April
Paths of Glory
Johnny Be Good
Roadie
Kotch
Eat Drink Man Woman
Carbon Copy
Undertow
Making Mr. Right
The Falcon and the Snowman
Out Cold
Four Friends
Rhapsody in August (Kurosawa)
The Sure Thing
Manhunter (full frame)
Carrie (TV remake)

...and lots more that have slipped my mind. If I go back in the next day or two I'll expand this list.

Sounds like Casey's store has the same batch as mine.

I picked up a few more yesterday, including Swamp Thing, The Chateau, Phantom of the Opera, and A Summer Story (Bob Clark sequel to "A Christmas Story"...I had never heard of it before).

I considered a lot of them, but in the end I only got two: The Pink Panther Strikes Again (which is the one I hoped I'd find when I walked in the store) and I also got The Cheap Detective (which is full-screen, but I don't think there's a widescreen available yet). I would have liked to have gotten some more Sellers' Pink Panther titles, but the only ones they had were the ones like, "Curse Of....", "Son Of...." etc. There were A LOT of great titles, though.

A few others I remember (that haven't already been mentioned):

The Great Train Robbery (Sean Connery)
Frogs (Ray Milland)
A Bucket of Blood
The Man With The X-Ray Eyes (Ray Milland)
Son of the Pink Panther
Curse of the Pink Panther
The Cheap Detective
The Last Valley (Michael Caine)
Evelyn (Pierce Brosnan)
The Amityville Horror (the original AND the remake)
Amityville Horror II: The Possesion
Ned Kelly (Mick Jagger)
The Saddest Music in the World
The Black Stallion (AND the sequel)
8 Heads in a Duffel Bag
That Championship Season (theatrical version AND TV remake)
Jinxed! (Bette Midler)

.......and many more.

I wonder why MGM is doing this- are these going OOP? Some of these titles are still for sale on Amazon for $9.99 or more.

I got A Shot in the Dark, Revenge of the Pink Panther, and The Pink Panther Strikes Again. They had Inspector Clouseau, and the additional non-Peter Sellers Pink Panther films, but I stopped at the three I mentioned...

I didn't have much luck on first visit, but I re-visited both in my vicinity this week and they were fully stocked. I picked up the following.

Prizzi's Honor
Rollerball
Salvador (SE)
That Championship Season
Frogs
Bucket of Blood
The Fall of the House of Usher
Konga
Duel in the Sun
Foxy Brown
Scanners
The Brood
Bubba Ho-Tep
Chato's Land
De-Lovely
Evelyn
The Fugitive Kind
Hell in the Pacific
The Falcon and the Snowman
The Pink Panther Returns
The Sure Thing

Along with the others that I picked up a few weeks ago, that's nearly 30 movies for under $100 after taxes. Even if most of these are only viewed once, I'll be able to off-load them for $2 and get most of my money back.

I'm gonna try and hit another one later this week.

I've also been making repeat visits and purchasing more. I think I've bought about 25 now over three visits. Hopefully they'll sell out soon before I go broke. :D

I stopped by my local Big Lots today, and they had a bunch of HBO titles for $3. I picked up The Laramie Project, Empire Falls, and American Splendor. I was really surprised to see such quality titles!

Every time I go in that store, they have different titles! Yikes!
