The actor who played Goldfinger was dubbed. His accent was too thick for the film.
I read that he dubbed his own voice for the German release, so at least he got his own voice in one edition of the film.

Reading some more over at IMDB, i don't know how accurate this is but it says this.

A few scenes in the final cut of the film feature Gert Fröbe's real voice and not Michael Collins' dubbing.

The line, "Except crime!" at Auric Stud is one example, but more obvious is the dialogue spoken just after Bond escapes from his cell. Goldfinger's line, "The underworld will rock with applause for centuries" is Fröbe's original voice, as is the line, "It can be, I think the expression is, blown!"

I wonder how Michael Collins and the post-production supervisors could miss something as simple as that.More interestlingly, I was watching a comparison between the original mono mix and remix of Thunderball, and found something interesting: On the original mono version of Thunderball, the original voices of Adolfo Celi and Claudine Auger were left alone.

There's no question in my mind that Skyfall tries to correct some of the "errors" of Quantum of Solace, by injecting more straightforward action scenes and a more traditional Bond formula. So in Skyfall you get a more campy, "Bondesque" villain in Silva, you get the more traditional glamorous Bond Girl, you get the forced injection of fan service via things like the silver Aston Martin DB5, and you have what I consider a particularly silly and contrived chase sequence in the subway. With the exception of the initial Aston Martin chase scene, all of these things were absent from QoS. That's why I felt QoS was more mature, and genuinely moody, whereas Skyfall tends to relapse dangerously into the formulaic Bond territory we had headed into with Pierce Brosnan's last couple of outings, but with tacked-on angst.

I've only seen Skyfall once, on Blu (a blind buy), and to date I haven't had the urge to rewatch it, whereas both CR and QoS I've watched many times over the years. I'm truly surprised that so many fans rave about Skyfall being the "best Bond to date".
Daniel Craig does nothing for me. He has that constipated look all the time, and his humorless take on the role makes Timothy Dalton look like Roger Moore. As for Skyfall, it made sure we weren't going to have anything but more dreariness in the future by blowing up the DB5. The Bond films have become imitation Bourne flicks, and I'd rather watch the originals.

Somewhat of a sidebar, but is anyone aware of the Free Collector's Edition 007 Trailer DVD that MGM offered in 2002 and 2003 via 007.com?

I had a VHS tape years ago (before DVD) that had a trailer from each of the films (Dr. No - A View To A Kill). I enjoyed having it to watch the trailers in order. I know its pretty redundant at this point, but still would've been interested in this dvd that MGM offered.

Click on Bond 20 and it will bring up the Die Another Day page. Then scroll down. Here's a picture of it.

I have been unable to locate one online or via ebay as well.
Thanks!

Happy 35th Anniversary to Moonraker as well!!!!

Just checking to see if anyone knows anything further about this trailers dvd.

Also where are the Moonraker 35th anniversary and The Man With The Golden Gun 40th anniversary steelcases! Come on Fox and MGM! Get with it!!

;)

I think that's part of a general trend. Blockbusters used to be fun, now they're miserable and grim. Bond has become a morose alcoholic and the last Superman movie was primarily about genocide. It used to be that part of the appeal of the Bond films was living vicariously through the character - but, really, who would want to be Craig's Bond?

I liked the comment on that other site that Skyfall was just a remake of Crocodile Dundee 2, that did make me laugh.

Watching a view to a kill tonight. It does seem that this film transfer appears a bit softer than octopussy. I am curious to see what fox and MGM do with the bond film transfers for 4k. I'm sure they will issue at least a few of them on the format.Would've been nice for them to have mastered them all at 4k scans rather than just the connerys and a few others.
