This wonderful 1982 film, directed by Richard Benjamin and starring Peter O'Toole, Mark Linn-Baker (later of the Perfect Strangers TV show), and Joseph Bologna is one of my all-time favorites!
It is just crying out to me for DVD release, even as a bare-bones disc. Just make it OAR (1.85:1) and include the trailer and some liner notes, okay? I'll buy it day-and-date!
"I'm not an actor, I'm a movie star!"
"There are two things that Jews know: Suffering, and where to find GREAT Chinese food!".
It's a great coming-of-age film about both the young guy (Benjy) and the washed-out-drunk-of-an-actor, Alan Swann, who finally grows up by the time the film is over. And Joe Bologna plays the best Sid Caesar-type I've ever seen!
It would go great with the release of "The Stunt Man" (Nov. 20th from Anchor Bay), my OTHER favorite Peter O'Toole film from the early 80's.
Please please please pretty please?....

Very unfortunately, this title is now owned by Warner Bros. I bought back the laser disc recently on eBay, knowing that Warner would have scant interest in releasing it to DVD. I suggest you do the same, if you have a player.

No, I don't have an LD player.
It didn't occur to me that this title might have gone over to WB, since the last time I saw the VHS on store shelves (admittedly a while ago), I distinctly recall that it had the "MGM Contemporary Classics" banner across the top.
Well...shoot. Why don't you think WB has any interest in releasing this on DVD? Avoidance of film vault issues and such?
In any case, we can bring it up on the forthcoming chat, right?

I wouldn't mind seeing this - Peter O'Toole is one of my favorites!

Wonderful film! Would love to see this one on DVD. Are we sure that WB owns it, the last VHS release was under the MGM Contemporary classics line

O'Toole is superb, he's basically doing a parody of himself. Also watch for Gloria Stuart in a cameo as the lady O'Toole dances with in the nightclub.
Cheers.
UPDATE: I've confirmed that WB does indeed have My Favorite Year
