My "Fearmakers" was fine (at least on the first play). I got it about 2-3 weeks ago. Same for my "Black Sleep."

I watched my copy of THE FEARMAKERS as well and saw no problems. I did not receive a recall note from Screen Archives which is where I purchased it.

    Im getting really confused!

I have purchased about 22 of this series so far and have experienced no "ghosting" or the wrong films being supplied.Overall the quality of the transfers has been excellent
and my copy of "The Fearmakers" is just fine.

The only complaint is that "Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl" is black & white;not colour.

I am rather concerned that some of the films due for June 14 have not appeared on Amazon yet.

I am after "The Halliday Brand" "Quincannon Frontier Scout" and "The killer Is Loose"
Could it be Amazon have ditched this series because of all the problems?

Some sort of website from MGM/UA would also be nice!

SCREEN ARCHIVES ENTERTAINMENT offers the MGM MOD discs and keeps a separate page for titles. I have purchased several of the later titles through them and have not had a problem. Movies Unlimited also offers the titles but you search for them and again I have purchased from MU without any problems.

MGM/Fox used a black & white television transfer for Captain Kidd. They could have lost the color elements over the years thinking they were not important, deterioration since it was not a stable brand or they could have been lost in some vault fire.

THE YELLOW TOMAHAWK is another MGM owned UA Film in the library missing it's color elements - it's aired on Encore Western in B&W - I wonder what other film are missing the color elements.

When TV was and in glorious Black & White a lot of the films that were in color were printed off in Black & White for local stations to use since color was not around. I read that a lot of the color negatives wasted away during that time, especially films made by smaller companies. Since both Captain Kidd and Yellow Tomahawk were UA theatrical releases, I would guess there are more during that time that are just in Black & White. There are a bunch of film from the early 30's that were in two strip Technicolor that only survive in Black & White form

I have just viewed my copy of "The Boss" and it is the first real bomb that I have
seen so far from this series.

We are talking Alpha Video standards here;pretty bad when the MGM/UA titles
    are three times more expensive!

There are lots of imperfections and "sparkle" throughout the film.
The mid-section of the film is really bad.
I would say that the DVD is just about watchable;other HTM readers will not be
    so kind.

This great Noir is certainly worthy of remastering/restoring but this is probably
all that we are going to get.
On the plus side the quality of the DVD is pretty good in the following two
key set pieces in the film:

    (a) The Union Station massacre scene.

    (b) A shoot out in a cavernous cement factory.

MGM/UA have probably put this out because lots of people are after this title but
its kind of ironic that many minor films they have put out so far have been in great
    shape.

Ordering "Defiance" with Jan Michael Vincent. Saw it on a double bill with The Octagon way back in the day.

Will MGM MOD ever release the Selznick titles "Wuthering Heights" or "A Bill of Divorcement"? I know MGM has the rights to much of the Selznick library, so I figure MOD is the sure way to go... anyone have any insights??

New Year's Evil and Too Scared to Scream - possibilities for MGM MOD releases?

    *****

Also, a CD soundtrack of the film Windows (1980) is available to buy, but the film itself isn't available on DVD. Have checked on the film's IMDb company credits page, and under the Distributors heading it has United Artists, so a possibility for release as an MGM MOD title? It was released on VHS in the UK by Warner Home Video, so I'm wondering if it may be a Warner Brothers title.

The Bond movies were released on VHS in the UK by Warner Home Video back in the late 80's.

Do Warner Brothers own the US rights to Windows (1980)?

AUGUST is Anthony Hopkin's version of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya - saw it on cable a couple of days ago and I found it a bit dull, but with good cast.

I'm excited to see two John Payne titles -- Raiders of the Seven Seas (1953) and Rebel in Town (1956). According to the Screen Archives Entertainment page, both DVDs will be full frame. That's not too surprising for Raiders but by 1956, weren't all films being released in widescreen? I did check the IMDB (which of course isn't always accurate) and it did give a 1:37 aspect ratio for both films.
Anyone know the actual correct aspect ratio for Rebel in Town?

I have to say the Melting Man cove ris less than inspiring. It 's not a monochrome movie for one thing. Although admittedly, the movie posters for it were either rather dull - and also monochrome - or rather nasty! Oddly enough I haven't seen this movie for ages but it just premiered on the Uk Horror Channel! Uncut by the looks, but sadly, not OAR. Most of the DVD releases have been 4:3 too; I think the Spanish one (Viscosidad) was letterboxed.
Master of the World is using the original poster.
Incidentally, this movie is on release from Fox in Spain, as a standard pressed disc. The shipping costs are rather high though, even within Europe.
