MGM, Great job on the Mad Max special edition DVd! Awesome. I love the trivia / text commentary.

Is there any news on the 007 DVD's? Will they be re-released this year? I would love to see the text commentaries added to the films. Not to mention some isolated scores as it seems the remastered soundtrack cd's are never coming. Thanks again.

As for the 007's that are due out years end....

Now that they have a year to do something, perhaps MGM/UA could do right by the catalogue that has netted them several billion pounds (or dollars!) over the years...

For a start when these re-issues come out, it would be nice to have the faults of the old versions ironed out - like the footage that is missing from On her Majesty's Secret Service.

But if they really wanna do something impressive, by my reckoning, the picture transfers of Dr No through to Live and Let Die could do with some serious work - maybe due to less than pristine elements, older transfer/mastering technology or whatever - but some of the films look atrocious in terms of dirt and colour shifts - OHMSS and Goldfinger particularly.

If you compare Thunderball with Dr Zhivago - both made by in 1965, both huge budget, both shot in 35mm Panavision and both crown jewels of their respective companies - with Zhivago's elements currently in an apparantly terrible state - compare the DVD's of the two and which looks better....

If the titles are suffering due to poor master elements, then why is/has preservation and restoration not been done to these titles - they have netted MGM a fortune, they are worthy of better - I believe Mr Robert Harris said in a post on this site that Goldfinger's dvd looks like certain shots have come from dupe elements - this needs sorting out now, they will only be in a worse state if they are left to rot.

As for the soundtracks, the original mono, stereo and multi-track mixes should be included for purists, but given that DME elements are apparantly still available for all but the first 3 bond's, why cannot a full 5.1 remix be done and also included for You Only Live Twice, OHMSS, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die and Man with the Golden Gun.

Comparing the remastered cd's of the soundtracks with the music scores on the dvd is quite an eye-opener, the DVD's audio pales in comparison.

And as to why Octopussy from 1983 - the only bond to have 70mm blow-up 6 track sound - is in 2.0 surround when all the other bond's from 1977 onwards are in 5.1 is anyone's guess.

Finally although Dr No through Goldfinger have only composite mono master audio elements available, chace audio could still remix these into 5.1 if they were asked - just hearing the original stereo scores integrated into the film, if not changing the effects, would bring them alive.

And as the latest three Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough had theatrical DTS tracks - perhaps they could be released on DVD that way too, the former two had laserdisc DTS releases.

And finally on the subject of supplements, all the pre-Goldeneye films have excellent supplements, with the exception of a lack of deleted scenes on the majority of them - but the last 3 bond's have no Inside... documentary's which gave great insight, instead they have merely making of fluff pieces that don't compare - perhaps we could have inside doc's for these 3 as well...

Thank you, Mark! You reminded me about the Brosnan Bond films. They really do deserve the full Special Edition treatment the other films got. I wanted to hear about what happened leading up to Goldeneye. Please include documentaries for the Brosnan films. I'd also like to see the other films fully restored picture and audio wise like Mark suggested. Is this possible?

What pissed me of the most about the SE's was the "audio commentaries." All were a joke, except for Moonraker and the Brosnans. Hell, they were not even really commentary tracks, just a bunch of boring, archaived interviews that usually had nothing to do with what was happening on screen, let alone the movie.

C'mon MGM, a lot of these people involved with the older movies are dead, are some of the rest probably don't have much time...Also, what I wouldnt give to hear the "banned" Criterion audio commentary tracks. Ofcourse, we have a better chance of world peace tomorrow than those things ever becoming avaliable.

Whats "wrong" with the criterion commentaries? I keep hearing about them being banned or what not,why is that?

I, for one, am truly hoping the next release of these Bonds films will be at a significantly lower retail price. Some of us have bought a few of these titles twice, and at a retail of $34.95. Time to go about $19.99 each this time around!

With 20 films in the can by next release, I really would have preferred to get these films right the first time. Although I got some serious online discounts, I still invested quite a bit in the Bond series.

I like the suggestion of a lowerred price point, and all of the feature recommendations. I also agree that most commentaries were not good. Considering commentaries are some of my favorite features, it says a lot that I'd prefer the dataspace be used for audio and video decompression.

To be honest all this continual talk of 007 is v tiresome and I for one will not be buying any version of 007 old, new, or otherwise.

Surely the company has more important films which were made by Oscar awarded directors, so 007 films should be discarded and their fans should never enjoy them the way they'd like to.

    Having done a search on this topic, I find that Eight days ago - E I G H T D A Y S A G O- someone bumped a similar 007 thread! What is going to satisfy you people?

I have a lot of free time on my hands which forces me to read every single thread here, I hope everyone will take that into consideration when they post in the future and will stick to topics I enjoy, for example the Godfather films and the Ernest films.

    Thank you.

A F 13th fan perhaps???, originality was obviously not a gift you were granted with...bumping a thread in which no response has been given is a bit different to one in which the question was answered by a studio head.

    Anyone for sour grapes?

Oh and in-case your wondering, running a highly succesfull, multi-million pound company doesn't give me that much free time, but when I'm not socialising with models, I do like to post now and again - as my 90 posts in just under a year attests too.

A doubly-suprising comment, regarding the amount of free-time I have to post, given that you've obviously taken your time to set-up a new HTF account just to make the above response as you didn't dare use your usual sign-in.

Bumping a thread in which a response was given by a studio head and asking for an update is a bit different then having two threads asking about movies that have already been released, I suppose. I'm sure if the nice man from 007's company said simply "they will come", you may question what to expect from the DVDs, or even a roundabout idea of what month or year they may appear. But when others do it, it's quite annoying, isn't it??

It's a shame you don't have more free time to post! I hardly post myself, but I do read every thread, regardless if the topic is of any interest to me, and I feel my superior taste in films should not have to be mixed in with the preferences of others. I have difficulty minding my own business.

That's exciting that you get to hang out with models. Have you ever met Tyson Beckford? I met him on a cruise, he was a sweetheart!

PS: It's "socializing" Mr. corporate head.

I'd like to have box sets in sets of 6 of all the 007 films (like the VHS sets) and if every one of them could be a SE then that would be great.

The current box sets, to me, just aren't worth buying since they aren't in order.

Or should I say Christina, this is the last time I'm going to post in response to yourself, I have better things to do - you obviously don't, this is a Home Theater Forum, not a let's try and wind each other up and lose our respect from other members and moderators forum.
Regarding your last post - I posted a thread about the 007 series, as we all know they're being re-issued at the end of this year, but there is absolutley no indication that they are going to make any improvements to them, hence why I made some suggestions as to what could be done - I didn't badger a particular person, nor make demands, just a few suggestions. When this thread disaperred, I copied the same comments into a new thread which someone else started -I didn't ask the same questions, which had already been answered.
As for F 13th, you have the full theatrical versions, in a very decent quality in anamorphic - on top of which, thanks in doubt to your and your other F13 fan's efforts, you know know that you are going to be getting excellent special editions versions - presumably uncut, at somepoint -I'd guess as from October 2003.
You know this because Martin Blythe responded to your thread on the subject just before christmas and said so. The point of the original thread to which you carried your weight was to find out what was going on, when you knew the answer from a Paramount rep already - and in doing so risked annoying a very welcome visitor to the board, as how many times does he need to answer the same question, if you want specifics - do you honestly think he'll know for a title that is probably nearly 2 years away?
Oh and it's spelt socialising in England, where I live, and where the english language originated from - thankyou so much!

If you post any more catty, inaccurate, responses to this Christina I shan't be responding back - so don't waste your time.
    Sorry people (and especially moderators)

I'm not "Christina". I saw the Friday the 13th thread and became excited, because I didn't know it was OK to insult other persons tastes and put them in a position where they have to defend themselves and then get banned. Do you know how many times I would have loved to do that?? So I went to reply to the Friday the 13th thread, and say how I don't like those "films" and don't want to hear about them anymore, but it was closed. So I saw another thread about a series I hate, 007, and was amused to see that you post in support of things too. But luckily this thread was still open, and I got to ask people to stop talking about these movies, because quite frankly I am sick to death of it!

Tell you what...every time you see Bond or 007 in a thread title, just skip it! That would solve everyone's problem!

    Cheers

As you stated, "because quite frankly I am sick to death of it! "......Excuse me but, don't read it if you are so sick to death of it.

Topics of this sort are directed towards fans of the topic subject. I probably speak for most people on this thread when I say that we could honestly care less whether you are sick of it or not.

Skipping a thread that doesn't interest me! What a novel idea. But as Mohamed over at Dunkin' Donuts can attest to, I have little self control. Anyway, this thread keeps coming up and the hysteria needs to come to an end already! This is hardly worth losing your account over! Please note that I have already stated which films I like and we should only speak of those. Thank you.

    Thanks Robert.

I am curious about the possibility of a re-release of the series on DVD. A while back I heard something about a "special box" being released for the DVD's in Europe. Can anyone add anything to this rumor for me?

Probably no chance of ever getting that here in the US, eh?

Slightly off topic rant here but, why do so many of the American movies and TV shows get better releases (packaging, etc.) outside of the US?
