    from today's http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents
We've got MGM's complete slate for January 2003, which features a number of Valentine-ready titles. Look for Much Ado About Nothing, Mystery Date, The Woman in Red, Music from Another Room, Secret Admirer, Summer Lovers, Making Mr. Right, True Love and Tune in Tomorrow, all on 1/7.
MGM has also officially announced the DVD release of The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course - Special Edition for 12/17 (SRP $26.98). Look for anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, a "making of" featurette, the Lights! Camera! Animals! featurette, deleted scenes with director's introduction, "behind-the-scenes" effects footage, the Baha Men music video, a "pop-up croc" trivia track, interactive games, a photo gallery and trailers

Summer Lovers! Yahoo! Now I can dump my hideous looking pan and scan laser disc for a nice 2.35 print!

Wow! Way to go MGM. Now, I can stop revisiting my posts pleading for a Summer Lovers DVD. My favorite "guilty pleasure" movie of all is finally coming to DVD. I don't want to assume that this one will be anamorphic OAR until some specs are released, tho. Shame we have to be so cynical these days. Though not nearly as fun as Summer Lovers, the Stanley Donen-directed Blame It On Rio makes for a very suitable double-feature companion.
Now, if Warner Bros. can release Reckless (1984) from their Turner vaults, I can have my other favorite Daryl Hannah film on DVD.
Thanks again, MGM. You've certainly made my night.

Yes, another one who's looking foward to Summer Lovers. Let's just hope it's a nice OAR transfer.

Ooh, Croc Hunter! I'm buying that one...

The Pop-Up Croc track seems cool...

(And YES, I liked that movie)

Yessir. I missed that reference to "Summer Lovers" in the release news. This thread pointed it out to me. The home used in the movie on Santorini has a sign noting its connection. I'd watch it just to revisit the island. But it really is a fun little film.

there is also a price reduction mentioned in the dvdfile update

Also a part of the promotion are more romantic favorites, all newly repriced to $14.95 each: Born Romantic, China Moon, Carrington, Maria's Lovers, both the 1968 and 1999 versions of The Thomas Crown Affair, the decidedly unromantic Boxing Helena, Richard Gere's remake of Breathless, Just the Ticket, Best Picture nominee Four Weddings and a Funeral, the early Julia Roberts vehicle Mystic Pizza, and When Harry Met Sally. MGM will also reprice another Rob Reiner favorite The Princess Bride to $19.95, and the Reese Witherspoon smash Legally Blonde to a low $9.95.

I simply do not believe MGM would be stupid enough to release Summer Lovers which is a 2.35 film P&S (it's not full screen). DVD file has reported full screen on eventual wide screen releases before so I'm not worried ..... yet.

My joy that Summer Lovers was finally being released lasted about ten seconds until I read further that it would be full screen only. I pray this isn't true, but DVDFile's quote seems pretty specific about it. Here's hoping...

So is "Much Ado About Nothing" the Branagh version? Didn't Columbia do the original release several years ago? I knew MGM got rights to a goodly amount of Samuel Goldwyn company stuff, but I didn't realize it extended to more recent films. I wonder if this will be a new/improved transfer over the Columbia release?

I believe that one was a widescreen/fullscreen flipper. I always held off hoping there would be a better release one day perhaps with a Branagh commentary, but at $14.95 I guess I'm not holding my breath for any extras.

Is there a number or email address we can use to contact MGM?
I'd like to register my disgust that Secret Admirer will be full-screen. According to IMDB the OAR is 2:35:1!

Has there been any information on the Dangerous Game (Harvey Keitel, Madonna, etc) release for MGM? I know they're releasing Body of Evidence...but Madonna actually acted in this movie. One of the few [IMG]

I second the curiosity on Much Ado. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony only had video rights for 5-10 years, with it reverting back to Sam Goldwyn (which has since been purchased by Macromedia, which itself was purchased by MGM) afterward. I seem to recall Sony considering a v2.0 DVD release a couple years back, but never heard anything about it going forward.

$15 seems like a low price for any new features, but MGM has surprised me before (Killer Klowns and Buckaoo Banzai were loaded at similar price points).

Yep, I too am wondering a few things about this announcement.
First of all, I can almost understand the studios
only releasing MAR product when the the film was
totally (meaning ZERO pan-and-scannig of specical effects
    shots) softmatted for theaterical release.
Sure, were are losing ALOT of resolution without anamorphic
enhancement, but we can use are own, hand-made, soft mattes,
or zoom the picture to aproximate the original OAR.
BUT....BUT, when a film was OAR 2.35:1, and clearly
shot in panavision, cinemascope, or other widescreen
incarnations, litterally hacking off part of the
original image is NOT acceptable if they are not going
to also offer an OAR version.
Additional information is bad enough, but to total
    absense is something else.
Does Randall Kleiser know about this?
(And, yes, Summer Lovers is a "guilty pleasure"
    of mine, too.)
As for Much Ado About Nothing, I sold my
Columbia Tri-Star version well over a year ago because
of a rumored SE in the works. I hope that is what is
    coming.
    Mark
