Give this title the SE treatment it deserves...and it's OAR in 16x9 anamorphic.

We want it. Many of us have not purchased this title waiting for the eventual widescreen version. Many of us will purchase it again. Warner gave us both version of Willy Wonka. Can your studio match their efforts?

MGM, I am holding out too. No sale until you do it right.

    --------

I was always under the impression that CCBB was a Disney film.

Q: Do you know who wrote CCBB?

A: Ian Fleming! That was a shock to me!! Great novel.

This pan and scan disc came out a month after I finally caved in and got a DVD player; had I known about it I probably would have had second thoughts about getting one since I was still unsure if widescreen was going to be supported consistently. I have an MGM laserdisc demo that shows clips of this in widescreen; when I heard the DVD was pan and scan I thought it was a misprint!

This title is begging to be released in a new Hi Def transfer from the original 65 MM elements. Because of the length of the film, it would be wise to put the extras on a second disc. Here are some extras for your consideration:

    Commentary by cast and crew

    Documentary with cast interviews

    Behind the scenes featurette

    Deleted scenes

    Musical highlights

    Theatrcal trailer

    Production stills

    Production notes

    Thanks

A 16:9 enhanced wide screen CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is an absolute DVD must! Hopefully MGM will rectify the "pan and scan only" mistake of the past.

Well, Derek, you could conceivably make it your next Operation: DVD. It seems to have worked in the past.

I own this movie and enjoy watching it. Of course, I'm talking about the widescreen laser disc. If you clowns ever want me to replace it with a dvd, it's gonna have to be OAR. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang pan & scan. Pathetic. [IMG]

I would love to have CCBB on dvd - but only in its OAR, as it was meant to be seen! Here I am, eager to give you my money to have this film on dvd, but I have not purchased your sickly pan&scan disc. I never will, even if it remains the only way the film (which is a favorite from my childhood) is ever released on dvd.

I've heard that there may be a special edition of Chitty coming, but again, in pan&scan. You can load the thing up will all the extras in the world, but I still will not buy it if the film itself is not in its OAR. Period.

My wife keeps asking for this disk....I keep telling her "No".

I'd like to stop being so negative. I hope MGM can help.

I will avoid this DVD, a childhood favorite, like the plague until it comes out OAR.

Someone actually heard that the rumored SE might be P/S only?

If there's any truth to that rumor *that* is frightening.

MGM. Look at Shrek by Dreamworks. Look at just about any "family" DVD from Disney. If they can do 16x9 WS to maintain OAR (even enhancing 1.66:1 titles...some studios have figured this out), why can't you?

    Why won't you?

    When will you?

An SE of this movie isn't really an SE if it isn't OAR, IMO.

Turner Classic Movies is showing CCBB this week in its original widescreen format.

People can watch this for FREE instead of buying the DVD. MGM: You're missing an opportunity to earn $$$!

To my shame, I have the P&S DVD -- one of only (I think) three P&S titles I own out of 300. I had the opportunity to get it for under $10 not long after it came out, so I compromised on the OAR.

I don't really regret it because my daughter has watched and enjoyed it several times.

Still, MGM, if you do this right and reissue a SE in anamorphic widescreen, I'll buy it again and get rid of the current copy. It's really disheartening to watch the opening credit sequence on the current DVD in widescreen and then see it abruptly switch to ugly P&S thereafter.

This whole subject is an insult to the DVD consumer. Many people want this title in widescreen and MGM knows it. Maybe the new owners of the company will see fit to release this film in it's proper OAR.
