Anyone else notice that when the MGM DVD intro for the Princess Bride SE has the volume level lowered compared to the others. While it's still loud, it doesn't have me covering my ears and reaching for the remote. Hopefully this will continue with future MGM titles.

I have several recent (last couple of weeks) MGM titles and I had noticed the same thing. The lion is tamed (a bit). Thank you, MGM!!

    Boy, this is good news!
I can't count how many times I've had to do a Chow Yun Fat dive across the room for the remote before my speakers were pulverized by that intro.
MGM -- my ankles (and my coffee table) thank you!

LOL i think the loud lion is hilarious. The other day i popped in a stargate sg-1 disc and my brother had just started walking out of the room and jumped when the lion roared. the funniest thing ive seen in a while

I noticed the same thing on my new Silence of the Lambs SE disc. I immediately knew it was lower because my cat didn't jump up and hit his head on the ceiling and my ears didn't start bleeding for a change...

I didn't notice yet because I have been trained to turn all MGM volumes down. It's a reflex at this point. [IMG]
Damn glad to hear that they have adjusted this horrible feature.

Like others here I've been conditioned to always hit the mute button when inserting an MGM disc. Glad to hear someone came to their senses.

This thread is giving me the biggest laugh of the day. I, too, hadn't noticed the volume decrease for the same reason that Seth and Michael weren't aware of it.
    This comment had me rolling:

Wow, here I was scratching my head wondering why I had never noticed this phenomenon, then I took a look at my collection (very meager in comparison to many of you) and noticed that of my 70 some odd discs, I don't own a single MGM title. I'll be damned.

I once used the MGM roaring lion to play a joke on my two cats. I got them both in the HT room, turned up the volume, and popped in my Fargo DVD. I think the cats set a land-speed record bolting out of that room!
I kinda like the loud roaring lion! It's the next coolest thing to the THX intro.

If I remember right, When we visited Widescreen Review during the L.A. Meet, WSR complained about MGM's logo being too loud as well.

It's noticeably quieter on the new Terminator (which is a damn fine disc!) too.

What is it with the THX intro, anyway? What is it supposed to be? It sounds like a bunch of different frequencies come in and then get really loud.
What the hell does it prove? That THX is loud?

Thank God they did this! Although my main system, an Onkyo DSTX-989, has a function where you can set the "volume ON" level, my Yamaha DSP-A1 in my bedroom doesn't and I remember getting ready for bed one night after popping in a disc and RRRRRROOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRR! The keepcase went flying through the room...and I thought I was the only one that noticed this. Too funny! :)
    Cheers!

After Hannibal and the recent Midnite Movies, I'd already adjusted to the normal sounding lion. Then I put in Love & Death and was just about flattened on my way back to the couch! My friend said, "It's too loud." I replied, "You think so?" [IMG]

That damn Lion was a hell of a lot more impressive than the wimpy THX intro [IMG]
I agree that thing was just too damn loud.

Man, I must be the only one who likes how it was loud. It kind of settled you into your seat. [IMG] I love it.
