I was thinking about one of these grills for covering my port hole.
    Parts Express Mesh Grill
Or the 8, 10 or 15 inch variants.
Would any of these limit the air flow out of the port enough to significantly affect performance? Would larger be better to increase the area for the air to move through? Would they affect the tuning frequency at all?
Lastly, with the mesh that fine, do you think it would be possible to spray paint it to match my sub without plugging up the mesh holes?

You might lose 1dB of output with a grill over the port. In the overall scheme of things, I wouldn't worry about it. SVS uses them, and you don't hear their customer complaining about them decreasing the bass quality.

I use that one, and there's really no way it will effect airflow at all, it's much more open than it appears in the photo.

I used that same grill on my sub to cover the port. Can't really see it making that much of a difference, and I even painted mine.
