Pretty much everything from Joe Satriani.

King Crimson- ConstucKtion of Light, Fracture / FracKtured, Lark's Tongues in Aspic (any of them), Level Five

Some of my favorite hard-rock-ish instrumental material comes from collaborative one-off lesser-known projects like Liquid Tension Experiment, Black Light Syndrome, and Gordian Knot.

Chris Pollands (ex-megadeth guitarist) "Return to Metalopolis" is one of my all-time favorite metal instrumental albums. It's kinda hard to find now, but worth at least a listen if you can find it.

"Midnight" and "Beginning" from Jimi Hendrix's War Heroes Album/CD
Don't forget "Tax Free", it has a nice sound to it.

Also, "Palley Gap"(cool), and "Piece In The Mississippi"(pissed) are nice instrumentals by Jimi Hendrix. I think are found on his Voodoo Soup album.
