I've been a major fan of Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation since childhood. Even as a stupid little kid I could tell that his movies were something special. The more I learned about Harryhausen's methods, the more impressed I became.

So it was a big thrill to meet him and get his autograph this weekend at Dark Delicacies bookstore in Burbank. He signed two copies of his book An Animated Life which bought me two more autographs on the memorabilia of my choice, which was a pair of original lobby cards from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, one showing the dragon, one featuring the cyclops.

On display were the armatures of Mighty Joe Young and King Kong, and before I left, Forry Ackerman showed up! I wouldn't have been surprised to wake up and find myself in bed, twelve years old, having the dream of my life!

    Good, good day.

Cool! I love the Sinbad movies, and Mighty Joe Young was a favorite of mine as a kid on the Saturday night late show.

Did you get a chance to talk to him at all? I've been curious to hear his thoughts on all the CGI in movies nowadays.... and what he thought of the little homage to him in Monsters Inc. [IMG]

You wouldn't be looking to unload one of those Sinbad cards, would you? [IMG]

The Ackermonster show up, too? Damn! I had been mulling going to this thing. There's a bunch of Harryhausen-related activity going on in town at the moment.

Lucky you Jan. Ray's one of my heroes. I've been a huge fan of his since I was a kid. I missed seeing him when he was in London signing his book, dammit. That new book of his sure is great though, full of interesting anecdotes and many rare photos, and he also admits to admiring the cgi dinosaurs of Jurassic Park, which was nice. [IMG]

I met Harryhausen not long after he made Clash of the Titans, and got to see some of the models used in the film. By the way, Ray will be at a showing of a restored print of Jason and the Argonauts on Thursday.

He's still alive? Wow. I have fond memories of Clash of the Titans and the Sinbad films.

I met the man at Comic Con. Just walked by and "WHA?" did a double take, Ray Harryhausen??!

I didn't even know he was going to be there. Best part was there was barely even a line. I just strolled up and got to chat with him and get his auto. Wonderful.

I can't believe it's been almost 6 years, but here's a photo of Harry with Harlan Ellison on a panel at the 1998 Dragon Con. Here's the reason why Harlan was wearing the shades in the first photo. [IMG]

I've seen Ray a few times, the last being in 1999. He sure enjoys meeting his fans.
