Just a casting rumor I saw floated over at CHUD.com which is ususally quite the reliable source.

So it seems some studio (my guess is Universal) is talking about a live-action Jetsons movie...and that maybe they've spoken to Steve Martin about the gig.

Considering Mr. Martin is my #1 favorite actor, I don't know if I should be disgusted or tentatively interested in this (potential) news.

Who else would you cast in a live-action Jetsons flick?

I'd guess Warner, since they own the Hanna-Barbera catalog.

Anyway:

George Jetson : William H. Macy (has the befuddled look)
Jane Jetson : Julianne Moore, although Lesley Anne Warren still looks pretty good.
Judy Jetson : Jessica Simpson's not doing too bad on That 70s Show
Elroy Jetson : By the time the movie's made, whoever I suggest will have hit a growth spurt.
Mr. Spacely : Danny DeVito. Duh.
Cogsworth : Now, here's the role for Steve Martin.

I've thought for years that this would make a really cool live-action film, what with modern visual effects. But I never had any idea who I thought should play George.

But now the more that I think of Steve Martin in the role, the more I think it seems absolutely perfect in a strangely disturbing way.

And DeVito as Spacely. Hell yeah.

I hope it gets made.

A long time ago, on a cartoon message board with which I'm signed up, I made my own cast list for a "Jetsons" movie. I'm way off the mark, but here goes:

-Matthew Broderick as George Jetson
-Sarah Jessica Parker as Jane Jetson
-Mandy Moore as Judy Jetson
-Haley Joel Osment as Elroy Jetson
-Dabney Coleman as Mr. Spacely
-Joan Rivers as the voice of Judy's diary (from the 80s episodes of the show)
-Doris Roberts as the voice of Rosie The Robot
-Mel Blanc voice clips for Astro

(Note: Rosie, Astro and The Diary would all be computer-animated)

I was thinking the way execs would think, and I apologize in advance to our HTF community if any of this comes true.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

The picture in the preceding post shows exactly why animated shows should not be remade as live action movies.
