Here's the official announcement:
Invader ZIM? Never heard of it.
Honestly, I am ALL OVER THIS ONE!!!
YEAH! I never thought these cartoons would see the light of day.
Thanks for the awesome news!
I'm going to roll around on the ground now, 'kay?
So, I'm assuming this is going to be the complete series? 6 discs should easily hold all of them.
Not familiar with ZIM, have heard of it though....
What's it like? possibly worth buying blind?
Media Blasters scares me, their transfers have never impressed me....
Its a somewhat dark cartoon where the laughs come ONLY from the animation and craziness of both Zim and the humans. And the laughs come a-plenty.
I can't quite recommend it unless I know what kind of humor you like...so you might not want to purchase blindly.
Its a very absurd cartoon...I give it out of four.
Only three and a half stars?
To those who don't know if they'd like it: the sense of humor is sort of dark, a la Tim Burton. It's a kid's show from the creator of the comic book "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac," so, as you might expect, it's a little subversive. Nickelodeon found that it appealed more to young adults than kids, which is one of the reasons why they cancelled it, even though it was critically acclaimed and acquired a cult following; it would have been more at home on the Cartoon Network, who knew how to cater to an older audience.
I'm so glad they're releasing this on DVD. I'm sure they'll release the unaired episodes--it would be a major selling point. It's a good thing Nick leased this series to an outside DVD company. Now we might get a chance to see the series released as the fans want.
Since this company wants this to be their flagship title for 2004, I would hope they put extra effort into making a quality product, but this is great news for all the ZIM fans (like me) who have been slowly choked to death by Nickelodeon over the last two years.
Now come the other questions...what are the chances these episodes will be uncut? (Like "Door to Door" and "Walk for Your Lives," which were both censored.) Will we get commentaries? The pilot episode?
Someone who claims to work for Media Blasters posted on Room with a Moose that the entire series is going to be released, including unaired episodes.
Sweet. All they need now is Ren & Stimpy, the complete Nickelodeon Saga and a Sealab 2021 boxset and I'll have no more complaints about animated TV missing on DVD.
For live-action TV I am still waiting for Mtv's The State
Neato! I'll definitely be looking forward to getting the whole series. I've been wishing this would come out on dvd ever since I first saw the show on tv.
Dark Burtony humor you say? I'm there, this actually sounds like something I would really dig. Guess I'll add it to my evergrowing wishlist!
I'm waiting for that too because I gots $240 worth of pudding and I just don't know what to do with it!
ZIM is the best "kids" cartoon since the first two seasons of Ren and Stimpy. It's knee-slapping goodness.
Set yo ass down in that puddin'!
Some new details about this release have come out from an interview I did with the folks at Media Blasters. Enjoy...
More great news! Thank you!
(Regarding getting the uncut episodes, my biggest want is that they get the original "Walk for Your Lives" so that the slow-motion explosion that slowly erupts throughout the episode actually looks like an explosion, not a big, green, censor-friendly blob.)
Perhaps David Lambert can shed some light on this. There are conflicting reports as to what the EXPENSIVE boxset will contain.
