McIntosh has announced an 8K compatibility upgrade for the MX123 A/V Processor. The preamplifier was launched in October 2019 employing 4K/60Hz architecture but, with the company’s “philosophy of continuous improvement”, all new MX123s shipping this month will support 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz video resolutions and refresh rates. The new MX123 will also be able to upscale lower resolutions to 8K. The product can be ordered now from authorized McIntosh dealers for $8,500 (with the 4K version no longer available from the manufacturer).
Of the 10 available HDMI slots, McIntosh says one input and two outputs will enjoy 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz support. The three new 8K ports will also deliver features such as Quick Media Switching (QMS), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
