I was thinking about picking up Maximum Overdrive (FOX) from Circuity City, since it's on sale this week. I was wondering what is the diference, as far as PQ and framing, between the Anchor Bay and 20th Century Fox release?

    Thanks in advance.

I can say (unless it's hidden) the 20th Century Fox one does not have the theatrical trailer that's on the Anchor Bay and, trust me, that trailer is worth the purchase price alone. As a side point, the transfer on the Anchor Bay release is a beauty to behold, so you can buy that one with no second thoughts.

If I ever saw a truck like the one in this movie, in real life, I think I would run for my life LOL

Just watched the trailer again, Stephen King could easily pass as a serial killer [IMG] LOL

Didn't Stephen King once call this "a movie for morons"?

Is this the trailer where he looks at the camera and boasts, quite confidently I might add, "I'm gonna scare the hell outta you!!"

I remember that trailer very vividly for some reason. It is a good movie, though, i've always liked it. I used to call it Night of the Living Trucks back in the 80's. [IMG]

I did a search on "movie for morons" "Stephen King" and the only thing that came up was an interview where Dean Koontz said he wanted to put the blurb "a movie for morons" on the movie tie-in version of one of his books. Since King directed MO, I could see him admitting it wasn't that good, but that quote would be a bit much. After all, he's got no one to blame for the quality of this one but himself.

BTW, never saw the movie Trucks, but the original short story was pretty good if you like survival horror like the Birds, Night of the Living Dead, the Mist, etc.

Try "moron movie" - that gets more results. [IMG]

You guys got me really curious about the trailer. I'll have to dig out my Anchor Bay copy of the DVD and give it a spin after work tonight. I bought that disc a couple of years ago and I don't think I ever watched it.

It is a pretty cheesy movie but I love the AC/DC soundtrack CD. It was one of the first CDs I bought way back when I was in high school.

Oh come now, Jeffrey, don't tell me you don't know about the rabid 'killer semi' audience demographic that was just running rampant in the 80's!? [IMG] [IMG]

    Silly. [IMG]

I love this movie. Its pure fun through and through. The transfer on the AB DVD is simply gorgeous. I would love to see the original X rated cut though.

This is a movie for morons. It's a piece of junk. That's why it's so cool. Stephen King did it like this on purpose, you're supposed to get stoned with your friends and laugh at how dumb it is. I want them to release an unrated director's cut, apparently King had to tone it down to get an R rating.

Why was it greenlighted? Before you ask that, ask "Why was King Kong (1976) greenlighted?" The answer: Dino De Laurentis makes some big mistakes some times.

I like Dino, but Harlan Ellison nailed it when he described him as having "the artistic sensitivity of a piano bench."

I have to wonder if his investor pitch meeting was anything like his KING KONG remake:

"Nobody cry when the Jaws die! When the trucks die, EVERYBODY CRIES!" [IMG]
