The Reckless Moment ***1/2 out of ****

Some of these have been released on R2 DVD; just watched TRM which has an interesting interview with Todd Haynes.

Will definitely be checking out more!

It's about damn time somebody set up a thread for one of the all-time great directors!!

1.The Earrings Of Madame De... (1953) ****
2.Letter From An Unknown Woman (1948) ****
3.La Ronde (1950) ****
4.Lola Montès (1955) ***1/2
5.The Reckless Moment (1949) ***1/2
6.Everybody's Woman (1934) ***1/2
7.Caught (1949) ***
8.Le Plaisir (1952) ***
9.The Exile (1947) **1/2
10.Werther (1938) **1/2
11.The Tender Enemy (1936) **1/2

I've caught almost all of these wonderful films in the mid-1990s thanks to a lengthy retrospective shown on late-night Italian TV (in their original language but with forced Italian subtitles); unfortunately, I missed out on 4 more Ophuls titles around that same time - LIEBELEI (1932), YOSHIWARA (1937), THERE'S NO TOMORROW (1939) and FROM MAYERLING TO SARAJEVO (1940).

I would have already picked up the 4 Second Sight R2 DVDs currently available were it not for the fact that they are still rather expensive and that Criterion are said to be working on some of his films.

P.S. Shouldn't there be someone who keeps these polls up-to-date or is anyone allowed to start a thread on a director he deems worthy of inclusion...because I have a few in mind myself which have, unsurprisingly, been neglected even by the knowledgable HTF crowd

Well, by golly, so there is. Guess it didn't make it into the Director's sticky thread.

Duplicate thread?

Hmmm....These things will happen if I'm not PM'd the links by the thread starter to add 'em into the master list.

Anyhow thanks for the PM Mario.
