Looks like Season 3 will be the last…Netflix has canceled Jessica Jones and the Punisher.

Not at all surprised it happened, but I am surprised that they didn't wait until after Season 3 dropped to make it official. Here's the official statement:

"Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come. In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

I called it.;) I knew after Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil were canceled that Punisher and Jessica Jones would be quickly canceled. Netflix was just waiting until The Punisher and Jessica Jones current seasons were released before their cancellations were announced. Now, rumor is that Daredevil might be resurrected on Hulu (after the Disney purchase goes through).

This doesn't shock me in the least. But, the fact that Netflix is effectively ending the partnership is like rats on a sinking ship. I was always under the impression that while Netflix couldn't produce any new Marvel shows that their current contract with these shows would continue on, unless they decided to end the shows.

I know I wouldn't support the shows if Disney/Marvel Studios decided to cancel them on a new service. It would just be seen as yanking the shows from Netflix to put on their own services. But, more than that, Disney and Marvel Studios could have just said that the shows weren't being canceled, that they were just moving to a new service. But, all of the announcements that we've seen have effectively said that the shows were being outright canceled. Nice way to give the fans who supported these shows the middle finger. I actually enjoyed Iron Fist and a Luke Cage/Iron Fist Heroes for Hire series would have been nice to support.

"Everything changes, and nothing really changes. People die, new people are born, and we exist in between." The final season of Marvel's Jessica Jones is coming soon to Netflix.

Kinda crazy. With all of the discussion about Marvel and Netflix ending their collaboration, I completely forgot that there was still one last season of "Jessica Jones" already in the can.

Kinda weird that they don’t just have a date announced.

If it’s within a month, why hold that info back? And if they haven’t settled on an official date yet, why would it be so hard to pick one?

Anyway, I’m looking forward to it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the second season but I’d still like to see more of JJ. I hope it is more like the first season and brings us to a satisfying stopping point for the Netflix Marvel shows.

It’ll never happen, but I’d would be great if they filmed an extra 30 second scene added to the end of the final episode where people turned to dust. We know all these Netflix characters are going away (if not forever and eventually rebooted then at least not used for several years before bringing these versions back) and it would be a fitting way acknowledge that.

I didn't think Krysten Ritter could go up higher in my estimation, but then I see this piece above, in which she's wearing a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers t-shirt! Clearly, a brilliant woman.
