After last year's release of Rosemary's Baby, I was hoping Criterion might get Marathon Man.

One of my favourite films of all time, and the ultimate 70's paranoid thriller. Looking forward to finally seeing it in HD, but I hope Paramount have provided more extras. I doubt it unfortunately....

That is great news.

I have a feeling that Marathon Man is close to a domestic
release. However, I'll probably bite on the region-free offering.

Luke, it's a struggle for me at this point.

The price is perfect. I would just rather have a domestic
copy over a region-free import. As I stated, I am guessing
that this should be on the front burner right now either at
Paramount or Warner.

Woah. Those are some great titles. There is the
potential to drop a load of money on these.

I am inclined to pull the plug and purchase a majority
of those titles but damn, do I hate those rating codes
plastered on the cover.

They do a reversible cover thing on some titles in Germany. The rating is on the front, but if you turn the cover inside out it's identical, but without the rating.

My copy of Amazing Grace came like that.

I don't have a whole lot of foreign Blu-rays but the few that I do have are somewhat lackluster (The Fog, for instance). Do European branches of major US studios typically have access to good materials when they release a US film? There's so much product coming out in the next few months I just don't want to settle for "good enough" as I feel it's not spending wisely.

The quality of European BRDs (Zone B) is every bit as variable as Zone A BRDs. It's impossible to generalize. Quite certainly, some European BRDs indicate the producers had access to first class materials.

Actually, I think that the ultimate paranoid thriller has to be The Parallax View, which unfortunately has yet to see a blu release.

The UK release of A History of Violence has substantially better PQ than the US version.

To be honest, the majority of releases where the same studio has the rights in both Europe and the US are identical as far as the films go, though occasionally there are different extras.

I seem to remember the UK Chinatown had no extras, while the US version had all of the extras from the SD DVD. Picture and sound were identical, though.

Already have "Marathon Man" on order from Amazon.UK, but ordered "Terms Of Endearment from Amazon.fr, along with Paramount's "The Great Gatsby" with Robert Redford and "Sophie's Choice", both in region-free BD!!!
