The 8000 has a little more power, and has somewhat better build quality and parts... whether you could hear that difference is arguable.

I'd be suspicious of a $150 asking price, especially if it's from an individual (unless you can thoroughly check it out yourself beforehand)... if it's part of a retailer's demo / overstock that they're clearing out -- with a full warranty -- absolutely go for it.

They're both great receivers -- the most dependable AVRs Marantz ever made... they are a little outdated, processor-wise (no DPL II)... but the 5.1 DD / DTS and music performance are top-notch.

Unless you really need the extra power, I'd probably just stick with the 7000. ChrisPC? :D He has both, and I'm sure he will have some comments.

Hello....I'll compare my SR7000 and SR8000 and report back. My advice is that I would be concerned about the low price. I did exactly what you did, but only because the difference in price was fair (apart from duties! ouch). I'd say stick with the SR7000 for now.

I'd defer to Chris's assessment, since he has both, but I have the newer 8200, and compared it extensively against the 7200 when I was deciding which to buy. Quite a gulf in class (and certainly audible), so by analogy the difference between the 7000 and the 8000 should also be substantial. At that price, assuming everything is on the up and up, I'd be very tempted to upgrade.

I had a 6200, and while I was waiting for my 8300 I had a 6300. I could barely hear a difference between the 6x00 and the 7x00, but the difference between the 6x00 and the 8300 was considerable.

It is possible the 7000 sounds close to the 8000. I remember first hooking up the 7000 and being shocked at how good it sounded, mostly the bass response. Of course I'm still waiting for my SR 6200 to get fixed too. Ok, I'll compare the two receivers asap. Tomorrow. I need to do this anyways!
