The new 9200 says it has HDCD decoding. What exactly does HDCD decoding mean on a receiver? Don't you have to have a dvd or cd player that does HDCD? Or does this now mean that I will be able to enjoy some of the HDCD titles that I have even though my dvd player is not HDCD?

Jeff:

That's exactly what it means. HDCD is a function of the digital filter, not the D/A converters. After all, if HDCD required special D/A's, then you wouldn't be able to play them on non-HDCD players.

Instead, it is a function of the digital filter. The receiver incorporates filters with HDCD decoding - so you can send a bitstream from any transport - be it HDCD or not - and realize the full benefit of HDCD by using the receiver's converters and filters.
