I have these Marantz HD880 speakers from 1977. I was woundering if anybody that knows much about speakers have heard them or about them could tell me what they think. From what i hear they sound pretty good and seem to be known as good speakers, but what do you think? They have a tweeter, super tweeter, midrange spkr, and 12" sub on each. Cost around $800 in 1977. And the reason im trying to find out is to kind of get an idea of what i have to help me choose a worthy reciever for home theater.

Yes I have heard of them. I owned the HD770's which were the same as the 880's minus the built on platform. I had mine hooked up to a Sansui 8080 reciever. I believe I payed $800 for the speakers and reciever.

For the price they were really nice speakers. Ran across a pair on ebay awhile back and even considered bidding on them. Have you tried listening with and without the foam plug? I could never hear any difference. Lost mine when the house I was living in burned down.
