I was curious if anyone thinks a new Marantz AV560 PreAmp is worth $430US/$680CDN. Anyone have any experience with this unit?

    Kevin,
It's pretty good, if it has the RC2000 remote. The RC2000 remote alone goes for about $100-$150 on the used market so that means your paying about $280-$330 for a DD/DTS pre/pro - I'd call that a good deal.
The only problem is it lacks 5.1 inputs so you're limited as far as upgrades are concerned. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a starter pre/pro, you could always keep the remote and sell the preamp if you decide to upgrade later.

    Mike,
Thanks for your input. Yes the Pre/Pro does come with the Remote and from what the seller is telling me the units he has are all new sealed in box. As far as upgradability goes, I'm not really worried since the layout of my HT room prohibits me from adding extra speakers behind the seating area. And to be honest I am very pleased with the way 5.1DD/DTS sounds right now. I'm just trying to decide if this would be a worth while finishing touch in my move to seperates. Currently I have a Denon 1801 being used as my Pre/Pro. I could sell it,($500CDN/$340US), and for about $100-150CDN/$65-90US extra get the Marantz. Decisions, decisions.

    Kevin,
Yes, that's a tough call. The remote on the Marantz is a great unit, but I haven't heard the preamp itself. I owned the AV600 for about a year and that was a well built, good sounding unit, but lacked DD/DTS. Check out www.audioreview.com for reviews on the AV560. Also, check out eBay, I think you could get a lot more than $90 for your Denon 1801.

Sorry Mike, thats $90US more on top of what I sell my Denon1801 for. Figure I can get about $500CDN/$340US for it.
