It is, Pamela. As others are noting, there are issues with both the story's veracity and literateness (or lack thereof). Seems this news would have popped up elsewhere by now.

It looks like this guy and his friend may have been doing some serious drugs of some sort or maybe had a suicide pact.
Sounds possible. He was in a coma for the past 19 years and his daughter is 19. Since he was almost 20 at the time, maybe he was trying to escape his new parental duties.

Coma guy: "How long I been out?"

Nurse: "19 Years"

Coma guy: "Oh my. Hey what is the movie hit of the summer?"

Nurse: "Terminator."

Coma guy: "No not when I went out, what is it today?"

Nurse: "Terminator."

Omigosh, someone is going to have to try to explain to this poor fellow who and/or what POKEMON is.

Well, I saw it reported on FOX news today. I guess now I HAVE to believe it. 19 years, wow. Quadraplegic - bummer.

Here's an interesting question, had his wife divorced him do you think he'd be past due on child support?

Yeah, he would remember who he is and where he came from. He doesn't have amnesia. However, he will have trouble forming new memories. He will need to develop an elaborate system of handwritten notes to himself and polaroid photos in his pockets in order to function properly. Perhaps he could tattoo the really important info onto his body.

Also, isn't it true that peoples brains don't really shut down in a coma, they still function pretty normal. I'd say there would be more damage from the event that put him in the coma than the actual coma.

Kind of peculiar?
Coincidence.

He went into the coma on Friday the 13th...
He started talking on Friday the 13th...

He was in the coma for 19 years
His daughter is 19...

He woke from the coma in June...
The word June and Coma each have 4 letters...

:D

We can go on and on.

The family, according to the tv report, took him on outings and spoke with him regularly. He remembers all of that.

I wonder how much he remembers or does he just remember like it was a dream. Kind of like, "You took me there, I thought that was just a dream".

I imagine if he was fully aware of everything going on and everyone around him he would have some seriouse mental problems. Imagine 19 years of having things to say but not being able to say them.

I don't know If I was in a coma I'd rather not be aware of anything going on around me.

Damn, 19 years though, there's just so much cool stuff that has come up that we probably can't even think of because we take it for granted. Cell Phones is another one.
