The guy was a professional gambler before he took this spin. If anything, the TV and movie deal he had going before he took the spin probably had him fairly well covered. Sure, he could have lost the $135,000, but if the movie is even a remote success he'd make it back as a psuedo-celebrity.
Genious marketing move though, reminds me of that guy that recently faked having a baby dragon in a jar to get his fantasy book printed. Brillant stuff!
Vegas should pay him royalties though because he just brought them millions of dollars in copy-cat idiot money.
Vegas - where people win thousands and the electricity is provided to the casinos by a state welfare program to keep them in the business of losing money to people off the street on a regular basis.
You can gamble wisely and make your stay at the tables an enjoyable and perhaps long one, you might even walk away a winner a lot of the time. But you are going home a loser more than that.
Alex - the folks on Survior and American Idol don't get paid if they lose on the show either, but fame (of any kind) has a way of making you a nice chunk of change. This guy does 1 or 2 commercial spots during his 15 mins of fame after the TV show or movie comes out (and maybe a few talk show spots), he'll make $1 million sterling easy.
casino winnings aren't taxed upfront. Any payout over a certain amount is reported to the IRS but no taxes are witheld. you would then have to claim them as income on your tax return.
the guy's supposed to be a professional gambler so i guess he'll blow it all in about 6 months.
it has however made me wonder what i would be worth if i liquidated all my assets. i think i can scrape together enough for the plane ticket to vegas and one pull on a nickle slot.
lets see, liquidate all my assets, go to vegas, place a bet with a negative number, lose all my negative money, wait, doesn't a megative times a negative = a positive?? w00t!
Sounds to me like the guy is suicidal. If he has already made up his mind to do himself, he may have put this stunt together as a last hurrah. Another possibility is that he anticipates taking a big hit on a divorce settlement and doesn't want the ex to get his stash. His chances of winning on one spin are almost nil.
This thread is so old.........I saw my username - didn't remember ever making that post - and thought someone had hacked my account and was posting under my username.
In hindsight this is a hilarious post. Thousands of people who bought condos in Las Vegas over the last few years put everything they owned into losing bets. Thousands are now "underwater" on those condos - the "owners" have lost everything on a bad bet.
I go to Vegas for a 3-day trip every year, I have no desire to ever gamble even a penny. I look at Vegas and say, it's only like this because all the looser's make it so.
^^ I hear ya! We have two major casinos here in CT (Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods) and everyone seems to make condescending remarks at how much money they make and I keep thinking "They wouldn't have all that money if you didn't GIVE it to them!"
