Brad here. Well folks I just read Brandon Conway's Pre-90s thread which indicated that a true classic gem of a movie (read: waste of celluoid) is making its way to Blu-ray. A true classic right up there with Casablanca (1942), Citizen Kane (1941), the Star Wars films, etc, etc...

None other than the revered late 70s "blockbuster", Malibu High (1979).

Someone has got to be kidding!!

When I first saw the listing, I had a brief tinge of excitement hoping it would be the far-superior (relatively speaking) film Malibu Beach (1978). Oh to have Dugan (never call Dugan a turd) and the bikini-stealing dog on HD Blu.

Nothin doin!!

Malibu High might be best described of what results when you cross a 1970s era high school filmmaking class, uh, make that a junior high school filmmaking class with a 1970s era equivalent of Assassin's Creed, complete with ill-timed special sound effects (seemingly lifted out of a Star Wars film) for the dumbest of scenes.

I remember catching this film as part of a twofer (with Moonraker (1979) at the 29 Palms Drive-In/ Roller Skating Rink Theater (roller rink has no roof, it is right beneath the screen).

The thing I find so amazing is that some genius somewhere actually took time to do a HiDef transfer of this film for Blu-ray. I may buy it just for memories sake if it comes quite cheap (which I have no doubt it will eventually).

Definite RiffTrax (MST3K offshoot) material. The folks at RiffTrax would have some real fun with this.

Any Crown International Picture title is most welcomed on Blu-ray. I loved that company, along with AIP and was fortunate to drive the Tenser's around to our drive-ins around 1974 or 1975. They fought the whole two days, but the stories I heard.

Now if we could just get a Blu Ray transfer of "3 Way Weekend"

3 Way Weekend.jpg

Absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen.
But I would still buy it on Blu Ray.

looking forward to this one. Vinegary Syndrome are putting it out which means it will be the definitive version. They are doing fantastic work on films that would be completely ignored by many others. I'm tempted to start reviewing this stuff on here since it's completely ignored on the HTF haha.

Well good to see one company going the distance to make a quality product. A guilty pleasure film indeed. Guess I was a bit tough in my OP.
