Here I was sitting patiently waiting for AVDeals to get the firmware upgrade so I could order one of the N996 players, and today the message is up on their website that (apparently due to frustration with not getting proper firmware), they are no longer selling Malata equipment.
(check out the URL! apparently a little testy at AVD)

Shoot....does anyone else sell them at a reasonable price?

I'd be happy to pick up the slack, but I cannot promise to hunt down upgrades, etc. like AVDeals apparently has.

yes, this kinda sucks. i had an order (with the glitches, it would not play much at all) and had to return it. now it seems that i will not be able to get a malata player.
they do mention a replacement using the same chip set, so i am hopeful that the player will be good, once they get that straightened out..

I also had a pending order with AVS, and now it's defunct. I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered it from 220-electronics.com. $354 including shipping. Here's the link:

They also have a low-price guarantee.

    WWW.MALATACANADA.COM has the PDVD- N996 for 399.99 CAN + 15$shipping (CAN)
so 415$CAN, direct from the distrubutor. I got mine in 2 days and it's great.
I know it says 999.99 on the website, but if you want to be sure, email them and they'll confirm the price is 399.99. That's what i did and that's what they charged me.
