I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to make my general speakers mute themselves when my headphones are jacked in. It seems that in order to have decent volume in my headphones, i have to turn the volume dial up, but that also makes my general speakers volume raises.

I am using a Denon 3802 with sennheiser HD 570s

hopefully a fellow denon owner can help out!

    Thanks!

    Will

Hi, I have an older Denon 2700. I know on my unit on the remote, there is a door that opens up on the bottom half of the remote.

Inside, there is a button labelled "Output".

When I push that, it toggles the output to the speakers on and off.

Try that, although I'm not sure if the newer units are set up the same way.

    Good luck

I recently noticed the same thing on my JVC 884 receiver and I can not seem to figure out a way to mute the mains either.

actually, i apologize! the output button exists on the remote! thank you so much!

However, if anyone is aware of a permanent setting that allows for no output when headphones are plugged in, do tell =P

    Thanks!

    Hi William,

My Sony ES receiver has a speaker "Off / A / B" switch. When in the "Off" position, the speakers are muted and headphones are activated. Try that.

    Cheers,

Hi Fellow Houstonian: I used to plug my Senns into the headphone output of the pre/pro I was using but then someone suggested plugging them into the headphone jack on my SACD player. Wow! Night and Day. If your CD player has a headphone output you might try plugging into that directly and leaving your Denon turned off.
