McCullers also wrote Undercover Brother, which is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. While funny is good, that's definitely not what Magnum was all about. It would be horrible to see Magnum turned into...something else. Hopefully Bellisario, Selleck and Company will keep it all in check.
I liked the TV show and all, but I hope you'll excuse me if I don't hold my breath for this one.
I have nothing against remakes as long as they're well-made. There have been a few that were very well made and even exceeded their source material. The problem is that the vast majority of remakes aren't and don't.
I completely understand, Paul, and you're excused. I know what you mean. However, this is a move to the big screen, not a remade TV show, plus the co-creator is co-producing it, and last, and most important, the star of the show will be the star of the movie. By the time most TV shows are taken to the big screen, their stars are too old or unwilling to play their part, but Magnum isn't a character you need to replace with a younger actor. I have a feeling that since Selleck is doing the part, all will be well.
All I can say, is that this fellow better be in the title role:
I've disliked Grazer since the PSYCHO remake, but if he manages to get Selleck in as Magnum and keep the feel of the series (not like what they did to Starsky & Hutch!!!) I will be one happy camper. The Magnum PI episodes with Bo Svenson is still amazing.
Well, who knows, maybe it might be worth seeing anyway.
Of course, the question will be, if Tom Selleck doesn't come back to play Magnum (unless the film was, like Star Trek, a continuation of the original TV property), who would be cast in the part?
Having watched Tom Sellecks life story on the Biography channel I have to say he looks great for a 58 year old. Could pass for his mid 40's. Lets hope the rumours of him starring in it are true.
Wow, he's 58?!! Man, I guess I'm getting older too!
Actually he's 59 now. his birthday was January 29th, 1945 I believe.
Tom Selleck in a big screen version of Magnum P.I.?
I'll be the first in line.
Ok Grazer get mad props from me for casting Selleck!
Ill be in line for this one.
Any news on casting TC, Higgins and the other friend (forgot his name)?
