I did a search and only found a handful of posts about this budget HDTV set from back in 2004....it's got my eye now due to the recent sale price at FutureShop - $999 CDN, discounted from $1299. With 480p/1080i, other than no HDMI/DVI inputs (component only) any major issues with this set? I'd be using it with a Pioneer progressive scan DVD 578-A, and very shortly thereafer getting a DishNetwork (ExpressVu up here) HDTV satellite receiver.

    Who buys a Magnavox?

Don't buy it. The shop is trying to get rid of their stock that no one wants.

No HDMI/DVI is a no go.

They're not doing you any favors at $999.

You can get a much better TV with your budget with HDMI.

Basically I was thinking about just getting a 32inch 4:3 CRT flatscreen (non HDTV) to replace my old 27inch Mitsu as a temporary thing till I go bigscreen, but the 32 direct view sets (JVC and Toshiba) with a stand are only about $200 LESS than this Magnavox is selling for now with the sale....

    why not pick up a 30 or 34 16x9 hdtv ?

sony is too pricey but you can probably buy a toshiba or panasonic which will look just as good for dvd 's and high def

i bet if you shopped you could find even a 34 for less than a 1000

also, a and b sound is clearing out toshiba 57 crt's for $1599

as far as the maganavox, i found several mostly positive reviews as to it's pq so it's probably not a bad set but it doesn't have hdcp dvd or hdmi which means it won't play hi-def dvd

2 years from now it will be a very large paperweight

    good luck!

Barry, 2 weeks ago Best Buy in Canada was selling this tv for $999 with a Magnavox HTIB... even at that it is a really tough call. (and they've also got it at $999 right now)

No screen protector on this one (which could be good or bad) and the viewing angles are very poor. I wouldn't buy it just because it's not much more than... they've also got the Toshiba 51 for $1399cdn right now which would be WELL worth the extra $400!

If that gets too much, got for a 30 or 34" Toshiba CRT.
