Madonna will release a box set for Christmas featuring both CDs and DVDs highlighting her entire career.
The 4 disc collection is expected to be released in November and feature two CDs and two DVDs.
Of the CDs, disc one will be a 20 track greatest hits collection and disc two will feature the best of her remixes.
DVD one is expected to be a live performance and DVD two is to feature rare video footage and television performances.

You know something? As a huge Madonna fan, all i can say is....*YAWN*

For a 20th anniversary in the music industry, I'd expect more than this. Do we get demos? No. Do we get rare tracks or versions? No. We get another Immaculate collection.

And the dvd's...do we get any of the unreleased concerts? No. Do we get the unreleased videos? No. We just get compilations. Let me guess....the beginnings and ends will be cut off by some talking head who's HOSTING the specials.

I really hope this is just a rumor.

yeah, i gotta agree. i'm not a huge madonna fan, but i have most of her albums and all of her best-of compilation stuff.

so, this would be no big deal.

i am surprised that someone with her star-power isn't coming out with something more comprehensive. i mean, there must be *literally* hundreds upon hundreds of hours of footage of her.

plus, i'm never a big fan of remixes. most of the time they just plain suck.

this is about as bad as the new order compilation i recently got. [IMG]

I think a great way to celebrate Madonna's 20th anniversary would be for Warner to release her first album "Madonna" on DVD-A with 24/96 multichannel and 24/192 two-channel mixes. They could load it up with demos and rare audio outtakes and maybe a video interview with Madonna reflecting back on the production of the album. It would be even better to have her entire catalog on DVD-A for her 20th, but I know this wouldn't be possible since all of the multi-channel mixes would take lots of work.

    Funny...everyone you mentioned was male.

Madonna is the only female entertainer to stay at the top of her game for 20 years and barely falter.

    Craig,

I run into people who can be quite hostile towards Madonna and they are certainly entitled to their opinion, however, I mention they can't ignore the fact that she is the most successful female recording act of all time and shows no signs of faltering. I personally believe she will continue well into her 50's just like Tina Turner. She is 45 years old with a family and she stills shares a great deal of popularity among young people. Teens who buy Britney, Justin, and Christina, will often pick up Madonna as well. Britney said in a post 2003 MTV awards interview two days ago that "kissing" Madonna was something she had dreamed of since she was a child! Madonna is indeed an icon.....a female Elvis if ever there was one.

Gender has a LOT to do with her accomplishments.

She's a SOLO FEMALE ACT who has lasted 20 years on top of her game.

It's never happened before and thus far she's the only one to do so.

That's what it has to do with gender.
The other people you listed were not only male but also part of "groups."

Okay, maybe "mediocre" is too strong a term. I just know that I don't pull out S+V very often and I often find it hard to think of much from it that does much for me. It's an okay set but not anything that seems all that special...

    And to add...

We got GHV2 which was a 2nd greatest hits collection. In it, we were treated to NO new material. Along with that, we got edited versions of the songs including a censored version of one of her best songs "Human Nature."

The only good thing about that CD was the packaging which is what *I* believe I paid for. Otherwise, it's trash.

I'll still buy this boxed set...but like so many of her fans, I think we're getting ****** up the ass on this release.

    I'm a semi-casual Madonna fan. I'd love a comprehensive set. Here's what I'd like to see:

    1. Lucky Star
    2. Borderline
    3. Burning Up
    4. Holiday
    5. Physical Attraction
    6. Everybody
    7. Lucky Star
    8. Material Girl
    9. Angel
    10. Like a Virgin
    11. Over and Over
    12. Into the Groove
    13. Dress You Up
    14. Papa Don't Preach
    15. Open Your Heart
    16. Live to Tell
    17. Where's the Party
    18. True Blue
    19. La Isla Bonita
    20. Who's That Girl
    21. Causing a Commotion
    22. Like a Prayer
    23. Express Yourself (single version)
    24. Promise to Try
    25. Cherish
    26. Dear Jessie
    27. Keep it Together
    28. Vogue
    29. Justify My Love
    30. Deeper and Deeper
    31. Secret
    32. Take a Bow
    33. Don't Cry For Me Argentina
    34. Ray of Light
    35. Frozen
    36. Music

That's my dream hits collection. As you can tell, I'm not crazy about the post-Prayer stuff. Hopefully, between the 2 CDs, most of these songs will be represented.

And I LOVE remixes, so I'm stoked about that. I can finally ditch some of these 12" singles.

    on a semi-related note.

i just dug up my picture-vinyl lp from "like a virgin". it's in pristine condition...i doubt it's been played more then a couple of times.

any ideas if it's worth anything?
