so, i had to reinstall some stuff from the install discs and after, i can not download anything without it being gibberish.
that is the file name is gibberish.

example if i try to dl quicktime instead of the actual file name it will be bv2pcpgy.dmg and a pop up will tell me it is "not recognized"

what is going on?

if i try to open a qt video using vlc i get this error...

"is empty, aborting
main: no suitable access module for `/Users/Whotony/Desktop/cqssqftt.wmv'"

A little trick...

Go into your Macintosh HD main icon.

Create a folder called DOWNLOADS

Go into Firefox and/or Safari settings and point all downloads
to that folder in your Macintosh HD.

Drag that folder all the way down to the very right of your
Dock. Now, all your downloaded files are only a click away.

Tony, where were downloads going to originally? Downloads should go to the Desktop just fine. If not, then something's askew.

Related to Ron's tip: Select your downloads folder and press Cmd-T. Now it's added to the shortcut list of your Finder windows (left hand side, with User, Applications, etc.)

well they were going to the desktop.
but some dl were only the folder i guess, because there was nothing in them.

after i made a folder and specified that as the destination, eveything started working again.
