Why August? Its coming out next week.

Not everyone has discretionary funds available to buy DVD sets at release date - especially at Warner Archive prices.

I have vague but fond memories of Lucan, but not sure if the show holds up well enough for me personally to take a bite on this one. Great to see more obscure pre-80s material being released on DVD, though.

All my discretionary funds for April are tied up, but as Jeff mentions, it's usually better to wait a few months, which will let you buy it at a far cheaper price than they're asking for it now.

It's funny the shows you remember from childhood. I can't recall what I watched last week, but I definitely remember this from '77. I was 11 years old and thought LUCAN was a great series. Was very disappointed when it was cancelled.

Just ordered from Warner Archive and looking forward to seeing it again, 40+ years later.

I watched it back in 77 and I do recall liking it. That's just about all I do remember about it. I have ordered the set but I'm not sure how it's going to stand up 40+ years later. I'm not expecting too much from it. There has to be a reason why it got cancelled.

I don't recall this series at all. Sounds like something I would have watched in the '70s however. The concept of the individual 'on the road/on the run' was certainly popular in this era. (The Fugitive, Kung Fu, The Incredible Hulk, Then Came Bronson, BJ and the Bear - to name just a few that immediately come to mind.) Maybe each decade has their share of these types of shows, but I tend to associate the genre with the late '60s and '70s.

The first thing that popped into my head was a version of the series where Susan Vega sings the title song for the series. (But nah, I guess not. :) )

I vaguely remember this series, although I didn't tag it a "Grail Show" I'll get it when the price is right.

I don't remember watching Lucan when I was young.
However, I was reminded of the show a few years ago when Lucan star Kevin Brophy made the news in a bizarre way: A Lucan fan had died and left Brophy and another actor, Peter Barton, the bulk of his estate!

Strange Inheritance also did a story on it:

Very interesting story, thanks for the link! Truth really is stranger than fiction at times.

Received my copy of LUCAN last week and watched the pilot episode.

It wasn't bad at all. Dated, sure (what show from 1977 isn't?). But Kevin Brophy is perfect for the part of Lucan, and guest star Stockard Channing was fun in her role.

Coming up, I just found out that two episodes of the show were directed by Sutton Roley -- a wonderful TV director who also helmed my two favorite LOST IN SPACE episodes ("Wish Upon a Star" and "The Anti-Matter Man."). Really, anything Roley ever directed had an interesting flair to it. I'm looking forward to watching his LUCAN episodes.

Thanks for the early review! Be interested to hear more of your thoughts on the quality of the episodes (and transfers) as you work your way through the set.

I've never seen the show as it came on in the late 70s when I was far more interested in watching sports than in episodic television. I love any of those Fugitive type shows, so I will give it a try at some point when I'm doing a bulk order of DVDs.

Roley directed two of my favorite Airwolf episodes (The Hunted & Fallen Angel) from the 2nd season.

I received my copy today and checked the first disc and was not impressed with the job Warner did. The aspect ratio on the Pilot is slightly off. It's close to 4:3, but there is a "squished" look to it, even when viewed on a good old-fashioned CRT television. The copy of the pilot I have from a TNT broadcast is fine and doesn't suffer from this issue.
The episode "The Search" was improperly encoded. It suffers from jerky motion artifacts and macroblocking throughout as if it was encoded at a significantly lower bit rate than the other episodes. I'll be keeping my original ABC broadcast of this episode. I'll be carefully checking the other discs in the coming days.
