Looking to add a SA player to my office, but don't want to spend much, nor do I need a DVD player. Any suggestions? Is there a newer SCD-CE775 available yet?
    Thanks

    Joe,

Look at the Pioneer DVD 45a. It can now be had in the 350 dollar price range, and it's a heck of a started SACD player.... Also does DVD-A.

    Steve,
Thanks for the info. Is this the player that downconverts SACD to PCM?

    Joe,

You are better off getting the 755, $250 retail and $200 street. It has superb video quality as well and was a recent rave in this month's issue of The Perfect Vision.

The sonics on Super Audio are much better than the 45A.

I have heard both units, and find the sonics to be close...... Also the Sony does not do DVD Audio..... Which is a nice bonus......

    Joe,

The cheapest SACD available at present is the aforementioned Sony DVP-NS755V (single-disc DVD player). It is available for around $250. Unfortunately, Sony has not yet announced a replacement for the SCD-CE775.

    Steven,

Is the '45A available for $350 through an authorized dealer? I still see it at Tweeter for $500. Brick-and-mortar dealers generally don't discount Elite products.

    Kieth,

    6TH Ave. Electronics... I paid 350 +tax = 371 [IMG]

At that price would you think the Pioneer is worth the extra 100 bucks??

Thanks for the input. So at what price-point will I see audio-only players? I already own the XA777 in another system. This is purely for fun (and a backup?). $300-400 perhaps? Are there SACD/DVDA players with no video?

    Steven,

Thanks. 6th Avenue is authorized. Good deal. I live in Delaware, so I wouldn't pay tax by mail. I'm not really in the market for the player, however. [IMG]

    Joe,

I am hopeful that Sony will release some new audio-only SACD players this year, but it certainly isn't a given. Any component with DVD-Audio by definition has video capability, as they all play DVD-Video discs.

    Joe,

The Pioneer has a Video Circuitry Off Button, so you can bypass all video aspects of the player.....

    Joe,

There are none.... Like stated above DVD-Audio would inherently play dvd's (video as well) by nature....

    Joe,
Sony SCDC 222ES 5 disc cd/sacd changer. It was 325.00 to my front door. J&R call for price. Not sure if still carried. No video and plays flawlessly!

I saw an open box CE775 at a local Circuit City for $120 last week, the same store where I bought mine for $160 new several months ago. It wouldn't hurt to keep checking your local CC's and BB's, if you haven't already.

David, I think your experience with Circuit City is more likely the exception rather than the rule. I haven't seen a 'CE775 in a store (several Best Buy, Circuit City, and Tweeter stores) in months. Circuit City stores in my area are now using a Sony HTIB to demo SACD, while Best Buy stores are using the DVP-NS755V connected to a Sony receiver. The only SACD player I saw at a local Tweeter store last week was the DVP-NS999ES. Finally, one Best Buy store in my area has no SACD player in the kiosk. They had a DVP-NC650V changer for awhile and then an 'NS755V. Now they have bupkus. What a great way to demo SACD. [IMG]

I saw the CE775 at CC last month for $160. I almost pulled the trigger on that puppy.

Steven, how do you like the performance of the Pioneer on dvd-playback? I still have my old Pioneer 414 from '98 and the sucker won't die [IMG].
