We just bought a new Samsung LN46A750 and the picture looks amazing! We can't figure out why the voices sound terrible though. For now, my wife and I are just using the stock TV speakers, no surround sound, and it is very difficult to understand voices on TV. They sound low and muffled from where we sit. I tried messing with the different audio settings and the equalizer but nothing seemed to help.

We have one of those cubby holes above the fireplace. The TV is on it's stand inside this cubby hole. The cubby hole is just as wide as the TV and it is about 3 feet deep. You can almost fit a CRT inside it.

Anyone know what's causing this or how to fix it? Where are the speakers on these Samsungs are they at the bottom? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance for help.

ps I did try the search button! Couldn't find anything. If this is answered in another thread sorry for the repetition.

Welcome to the forum!

If you read the section descriptions, the Projects section is where we ask about projects. Building speakers and subs. Refinishing your basement or a bonus room into a theater. Stuff like that. Your question is better answered in the Display section where TV's are discussed.

Reading the specs on your TV, it looks like audio was an afterthought. I can't see any visible speakers. Yes, it is 10w x 2 but there are no distortion figures posted on that. My guess is you get a full watt or 2 of power through some 2" speakers added at the end of the design process. Turn off all audio process and just try to run plan stereo. Maybe boost the mids and highs if your audio controls have an EQ. Don't boost the bass or lows. There isn't enough power or speaker to reproduce the lows.

It is universally recommended to NOT put the TV above the fireplace. Not only are their heat issues but it is a pain in the neck - literally. The TV should be positioned at eye level when sitting in your favorite spot.

the speakers in these TVs really aren't intended to be used...ha ha ha. If you have a stereo in the same room, you could temporarily hook the TV audio out to the stereo, and then maybe you'll decide to go the whole HT route...then you'll really be in for it! ;)
