    buy.com $17.99 + free shipping
best buy.com $22.99 + $10 digital coupon for next purchase
    dvdempire.com $20.97
    amazon.com $22.46
    costco.com $19.99 includes shipping
at this time it looks like buy.com is the best deal, but I still might just hold off at this point. I want to ensure that I have the disc in hand come street date.

That $12.99 net at Best Buy sounds pretty hard to beat, though!

Robert, don't forget that BB requires a preorder, which CAN NOT be picked up at the store. So there will be a $1.99 order charge + a $0.99 shipping charge + your local tax. It's still a net savings, but it will be around $16 net, and if CC has it at loss-leader prices (or Fry's) it might be worth the extra $1 to have instant gratification. That's the way I'm going. I'm probably going to take the frickin' day off to pick this up at 10am and watch it at home. [IMG]

I'm waiting for DeepDiscountDVD to list it. They usually come in a bit less than buy.com's free shipping offer.

found this on costco.com site for this DVD:

    Additional Features:

    An inside look at the

    Special Extended DVD

Edition of The Lord of the

    Rings: The Fellowship of

    the Ring.

looks like there is a "Special Extended DVD Edition" to

be released later ?? if that is indeed the case why not

    just wait for that ?

    Avinash -

The SE DVD will be a four disc edition that will not likely contain the theatrical cut of the film, as it includes and extended cut. Also the features included on the 2 disc edition may also not be available on the 4 disc edition.

I intend to get both. I have been called insane for planning in advance to do so mind you...

You mean... this ain't out yet on DVD? I'll probably wait for the 4-5 discs sets... unless there are some damned good specials. So far, there are no extraordinary specials... like getting a free shirt, or some other odd cool memorabilia. I'll keep an eye out on this thread come July/AUgust!

Remember that Best Buy only charges you the street date price for preorders. So, even if you preorder LOTR for $22.99 and the digital coupon, they'll only charge you the $16.99 or $17.99 that it'll probably be when it streets. With the sales tax that'd you'd pay at any other brick and mortar, you're still getting LOTR for only 11 or 12 bucks net.

Don't forget you can always use your digital coupon on a DVD that's available for in-store pickup and save the extra charges.

You know, actually, I've had another thought that makes me re-reconsider ordering online for a title like this, and that's the bunches-of-people-turning-out-on-street-date-to-buy-it factor.

I went out yesterday to buy The Man Who Wasn't There and there were no lines, but for something like FOTR, I don't know what to expect.

What's everybody's experience with long lines at B&M stores on street date of a popular title been like?

I'm definitely not trying to get people to buy this title one way or the other. Yes BB does indeed charge street date price so IF they sell it at $16.99, that's what you will get, and it will be a sweet deal. Still there are other times when CC or Fry's charges $15.99 for a new release while BB charges $19.99, and so the deal goes awry. You'd think for such a high profile title BB would be within a $1, but you never know.

As far as lines and supply, I have a feeling that New Line will mint the hell out of this thing, and that you won't have too much of a problem finding a copy in a store. I don't know about lines, but the BBs near my house and work are pretty good about having enough cashiers for whatever line there may be. YMMV.

Hey whatever works for you, go for it!

I will be bribing my local video store to give it to me on the Friday before, when most video retailers actually get thier product. Money is not an issue (unless it's more than 5 bucks higher!) My most anticipated title of the year (this week, anyway).[IMG]
