Here are pics of all the cover art:
4-disc special edition (same cover as August release, just a blue hue instead of a yellow hue):
5-disc collector's edition (art by Alan Lee), the box:

    front of box:

and inside the collector's edition, the DVDs are stored in this leatherbound case (well, it LOOKS leather...maybe just plastic):

and the two bookend statuettes that come in the 5 disc set:

Holy crap! That is great! In this time of crisis (the pan and scan debacle), this is just the kind of news we need.

I seriously doubt that's the four-disc box art... The press release said that it would be designed like a hard-bound leather book.

This leads me to believe that the 4-disc will either be the image David Lambert posted or the box inside the big Alan Lee 5-disc box.

I posted my thoughts on the artwork in the Movies section so i'll just chime in and say that this is going to be one sweet release. November seems so far away.
Now if we could just have a RRP on it, I guess it doesn't matter because they have a sale from me anyway [IMG]

If that four-disc set is really real, then New Line has done their work well in convincing me that I need the five-discer. I just can't see buying a pathetic Amaray over the elegant book-style case, even if it is $50 more. I think this movie deserves a little more.

Looks great. The only thing missing is ... the price! (for the 4 and 5 disc's editions)

Speaking of that, I'm glad that Jackson and Co. gave us their interpretation of which two towers are the Two Towers, straight out. I personally lean towards Minas Tirith and Minas Mogul, being the two towers of Gondor (back when Minas Morgul was Minas Ithil.)
NEWS: Regarding the 4-disc packaging, there will be two versions apparently. The amaray case is the A packaging. The hardcover book style packaging is the B packaging, which is the first run limited edition packaging. The 5-disc set will include, as shown in Kami's pics, the B packaging. Note that the second image Kami posted has FOUR discs, not five.
If this is true, I will be picking up the four disc set with the 'B' packaging[IMG]

Off topic, but no way is one of the two towers Minas Tirith.

It doesn't make an appearance until the beginning of Return of the King. So one tower is definitely Orthanc, since most of Book 3 deals with that tower. The other is probably Minas Morgul, since a lot of Book 4 deals with trying to get past it without getting caught.

As long as the "book" packaging is available separately, I will be picking that up. If not, I will buy the 5 disc to get it, but COMPLAIN BITTERLY!

They're giving me the packaging I asked for, and what should be a breathtaking SE to boot. That's worth my cash.

I think that with all the money New Line made from this movie (considering they still have 2 more) they should be able to give us this kind of a package, so I'm EXTREMELY happy they did.

The top one is the 2-disc I believe, not the 4 disc.

That's what I thought, too, Terrell, but the hue is slightly different. It will be the "Eventual" four-disc packaging *apparently*.

I'm just waiting to see whether this movie goes the route of Titanic, or Star Wars. There is no "in between." I know there will always be the diehard fans, but how many people are just along for the ride. I think the concept of a 4- or 5- disk set is cool. I just wonder how much they'll be. If we're talking $40 for the 4- or $75 for the 5-, it might be worth it.

I have a question: Where is the 5th disc on the picture?
