I got the Alliance (Canadian) version of Lost in Translation and I'm wondering if it's supposed to come with an insert. Mine didn't and I would just like to know if it's not supposed to or if I'm missing one...since Alliance usually includes inserts in their packaging.

    Thanks!!

Can't answer your question about the inserts, but I must comment on the two covers. As much as I hate Alliance, I must admit that their cover looks a lot better than the US cover (not cluttered with print and review blurbs). I might actually consider picking this version up.

Thank you! I've been trying for some time now to find out whether the Alliance has that cover art!

The only negative to the Canadian cover is the bilingual titles on the spine.

I've grown to not mind the bilingual stuff...ever since I was a kid. Not that i prefer it over just plain English, but I don't mind it anymore.

Yeah that Alliance cover is very nice. Still, it doesn't make me regret preordering the title from Amazon.

No inserts seems to be a growing trend. Seabiscuit did not contain any insert, either. I assume this is a cost-saving measure.

I've been holding off to see which release is better... has anybody compared?

I believe this disc is identical. The extras listed seems to be the same and the Alliance version also has both DTS and DD5.1. The running time is the same.

I'm hoping a review of the Canadian DVD will pop up soon.

While the extras and such do appear to be identical, I don't want to get burned with a sub-par transfer (ala Swimming Pool, The Pianist, Irrevesible).

I just picked up the Focus version and the only thing inside was an insert for a contest.

Just thought I'd mention that the AA version cover is not quite as pristine as the pic shows (nobody seems to have the exact pic online). The cover shot is the same as the Focus, but there's a gold Widescreen banner at the top and a couple lines of review text, one over a line of gold stars. At least the lettering is subtle in color and is printed directly over the cover shot, doesn't obscure a fair section of the shot with big black printing and a big white text box.

Actually, I don't care about the cover myself, but I know some do, so just kinda warning that what you see online may not be exactly what you get.

From what I've read in the review thread, the Universal/Focus Features disc has forced trailers/previews. Thankfully, the Alliance disc doesn't have these.

concerning the transfer- based on the descriptions I've seen of the Universal disc's transfer from various reviews, this appears to be the same transfer.

Does anyone else's case have two "clips" on the side that say OPEN on them? What is that all about? Is it so hard to open DVD cases as it is?

The Canadian release by Alliance contained no such clips. Though I'm curious to see what they look like...
