Are there any plans for this dvd to be released in the U.S. anytime soon or should i just break down and buy it off of e-bay for 10$ out of Canada? If i do have to get the Canadian release can anyone tell me how the video/sound quality is? I caught the very end of it on skinamax last night and i really want to watch it again[IMG]

    thanx,

the film is 2.35:1 and panning and scanning it is atrocious. i'm unfortunately sticking with my widescreen VHS.

with all the CRAP that gets released on DVD, i don't understand how this sits on the shelf.

I figured they would've released it already on the heals of Mulholland Drive's success. But here we are, still waiting.

Who's going to release it? Good question.

Here's a list of Distributors for this film from IMDB:

Argentina Video Home (AVH) [ar] (Argentina, video)
Artistas Argentinos Asociados (AAA) [ar] (Argentina)
    Atalanta Filmes [pt] (Portugal)
    Cinemussy (Spain)
Columbia TriStar Home Video [au] (Australia, VHS)
EDKO Film Ltd. [hk] (Hong Kong)
    NTV-PROFIT [ru]
    October Films [us]
PolyGram Filmed Entertainment [us] (UK, also video)
    RCV Film Distribution [nl] (Netherlands/Belgium/Luxembourg)
    REP Distribution [au] (Australia)
    Senator Film [de] (Germany)

Which one is going to release it in the states? October Films? I heard that the transfer has been complete for some time now. Anyone here, who might be elightened, wish to share any info they have?

I believe it is a Universal title now. When USA films disappeared Universal got the rights to this film just like Orgazmo.

I have the Australian disc. I think it's Region 0 PAL, though it does say Region 4 on the case. I thought, for $10 US, this would be a more than adequate 16:9, DD 2.0 transfer to hold me over until an official US release... and I was right! Not a bad disc by any stretch.

hmm well it does say Region: 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the site so i'm guessing that's it Dave. but it'd be 18.21 plus shipping what's it compare with the german release as far as price and quality and will the german play on my sony dvp-nv600?

also on http://www.davidlynch.de/collost.html i see the HK version with 5.1 but it doesn't say anything about the video. any reviews or advice on this on?

    That's the one I have...

Not sure if those DVD players do PAL to NTSC conversion. I use my XBOX as a Region 2 player, and since this disc was Region 0 and PAL, I use my XBOX to watch this disc.

I ordered my copy from Family Box Office when it was on sale and it came to about $11 US shipped.

If it's region 0 then it will play on all players, but the problem is that it's R0 Pal. You need a Pal to NTSC converter to view it on an NTSC set.

I've been wanting this movie for a long time, but a R1 doesn't seem to be on the way. I don't have a DVD player that can do PAL to NTSC, but I recently got a DVD burner drive for my computer. If I got the R0 PAL version of this disc, would it be easy for me to reencode it to NTSC and burn to a DVD? Would there be significant loss of video quality?

I hope this question isn't against forum rules since I'm not talking about bootlegging, but making a copy of a product I'd be purchasing.

JIm, not really, but it would be easy enough to just play the PAL DVD on your computer.

steve and tony i think i'll try out that aussie version but before i buy it i want to make sure i can play it on my ht. i'm pretty sure my dvd player won't convert the pal to ntsc, but tony you said you can play it on your x-box with no problem? if that's the case i'll just pick up the dvd kit for the box and watch it on it. thanx for all the help.

The XBOX does PAL to NTSC conversion (and a pretty good one too)... as long as it's Region 0, which this disc is, you shouldn't have any problems.
