I have a Kenwood HTB-503 system with the VR-407 receiver and a circa '99 Proscan DVD player.

I was watching a movie yesterday, and the sound started to cut in and out. I unplugged the optical wire from the receiver and the DVD and the plugged it in again. Since then, I have not been able to get any signal at all. When the optical is plugged into the DVD player, I see a faint light coming out of the other end. I have tried plugging the cable into both of the optical inputs on my receiver and both inputs are set up to take the digital signal for that input rather than the analog.

My DVD player doesnt have digital coax outs, so I'm stuck in stereo sound.. it sucks..

I'm hoping it is the DVD player rather than the reciever. I'm really hoping it is just the cable..

Any ideas?

The cable is the obvious suspect. Try swapping it for a different one. It's the only way to start narrowing down the possible causes.

Sounds like either the cable or DVD player.

I'd take the DVD player over to a friends and try it there.

Bring the cable and check that too.
