How much does the card cost? If there's no discount off the regular rental price, this could be considerably more expensive than just buying the disc.

From what I have read on other boards/sites the card only costs $25; which makes this a very good deal.

I dunno, DVD Price Search says the lowest price is $16.37 right now. Sounds like this would be a good deal for folks who are going to rent a DVD a week anyway, though.

I went today and they said they didn't have the cards yet. The rentals work out to $2.50 each vs $3.95 so you save money on them too. The only thing is you have to use them for 10 consecutive weeks. But if you assume you pay $15 for the dvd, you break even on 4 rentals.

    I assume that's the 2-disc set, not the 4-disc?

I picked the card up on Friday. They weren't sure if they were supposed to sell them yet, but did it anyways. The computer seemed to automatically preorder the dvd when they scanned the card, although they were winging it. In fact he said he couldn't scan my card to use the first rental.

I'm not positve, but I believe the official sale starts today. Hopefully they will know more about this now.
    Maybe not, but hopefully [IMG]

Now, can we guarantee the widescreen version? Due to recent changes, I'm willing to suspect so, but you never know. Oh well, it's still a deal worth testing anyway. [IMG]

My local blockbusters don't have enough DVD selection for me to get use out of a 10 week rental card.

i went to check out the deal today.

as soon as you buy it they scan it and the deal starts. the week goes from sunday to sat. so if you buy the card on friday you have fri and sat to rent your first dvd. if you don't, you lose that week rental.
i asked why it doens't start the week on the day you buy it. and the man said it just doesnt. that is the rule.

by the way the store i went into was on 202 and 92 in delaware.

Yeah, I noticed that weird aspect too. They even go out of there way to write the DATE of purchase, but yet the week starts on a Sunday. Also, they refered to it as a "preorder of LOTR at 25 bucks, with ten-weeks of free single rentals. Either or, still a good deal in my book.
I had to specify the widescreen copy after they asked if I wanted "VHS or DVD." And then the guy at the counter said, "No widescreen at the computer. Do you want letterbox? It's like a smaller widescreen." [IMG] Suffice to say, they got an education. [IMG]

If this was ANY other video store I'd check and see what the deal is in Canada, but it's Blockbuster, so forget it.

How quickly we forget what Blockbuster tried to do to us!

Just got mine, this is a great deal. I save money on rentals and get a free copy of LOTR. Now I can buy the complete package in November w/o feeling guilty.
The way I figure it, like animal training, I'm reinforcing good behavior. They offer a great deal, I buy. Pretty basic economics. I also made sure to get the widescreen (letterbox on their forms) version. This will help them see the popularity of OAR.
Oh, if I never did business with a company who at one point I disagreed with I'd be living under a rock in Montana somewhere, not that there is anything wrong with that [IMG]

I'm with you Brent. I don't patronize Blockbuster.
I'll patronize Best Buy or Fry's or some other retailer that's been on the side of DVD since Day 1. Besides, either one of them is bound to have a really good sale price at some point in time. [IMG]
