I was wondering what people thought about playing the LOTR:EE's through a 5.1 system - do you feel that it is better to play the DTS track even though there's one less channel on the system or the DD-EX track? I realize there are some who prefer the Dolby track, so maybe the answer is quite simple for some. I suppose this could be a more general question about DTS-ES tracks in general (I'm also thinking the Gladiator track for example)...

When played through a DTS 5.1 system, is the back middle channel completely removed or is the information played through the back two rear channels?

Not sure on that, have you looked on DTS's website. They seem to have gobs of info about each surround format, as does Dolby's site about their formats.

For standard DTS 5.1 playback, the DTS-ES center rear will be properly placed in both surround channels.
