Last year "Lord Jim" with Peter O'Toole was restored in a beautiful 70mm print by Columbia and shown in L.A..
Why hasn't this great film been released on DVD?
Is it worth writing a letter to Columbia/ Sony? Ken

Columbia, more than any other studio, dribbles out its catalog titles a couple here, a couple there. They don't seem to do big "promotions" by, say, putting out a bunch of Harryhausen titles all at once - instead, they are released one at a time over a long period. I would guess the (probably sound) strategy is to make sure they never run out of good films to release on DVD. "Lord Jim" will no doubt emerge along with others we are waiting for, just as "In Cold Blood" and "Born Free" finally came out, at just about the time we'd given up hope for them. So, before many titles are released for the very first time from Columbia, expect a slew of re-issues of existing DVD's, either in Superbit (one extreme), or in pan and scan (the other extreme).
