Can someone point me to an online store where I can order both the R4 version of the extended Dune DVD (Alan Smithee/Lynch version), and the Eyes Wide Shut (uncencored) DVD? TIA.

There is no R4 extended Dune
There is an R4 DTS Dune

    R2 (UK, PAL, $25) and R2(Japan, around $80, OOP I think)

Either country would have uncensored EWS

The cheapest place for the R4 Eyes Wide Shut, would be www.devoted.com.au (Click here for EWS). It's less then USD 8,- excluding shipping, which is about USD 2,- for one DVD to America.

Ah...thanks for the region correction. I'm wondering why I thought there was a R4 release of the extended Dune. Oh well, here I got looking for the R2 release, though I've heard the video quality is lacking for the extended Dune.

For $10 or so on EWS, I may just go ahead and order it from that Aussie site. Thanks for the pointer.

I can't comment on the TV cut PQ, haven't watched it yet, but it is 4:3 (p&s?).

Yes, the DC is 4:3 until Universal gives us the Dune Ultimate Edition with it in widescreen (knock on wood) (and hopefully wit hthe redundant battles out).

One of these days I'll make my own DC using the widescreen DVD and the UK DVD. Sure it'll be a tad jaring with the altering ARs, but it'll be the least compromised

actually, I believe there is now an R4 Dune TV Smithee version, I've seen it in the shops here in Singapore, where they sell R1, R4 now because it's cheap, but rarely the "official" R3 [IMG]

Is it just a repress of the R2 disc, or is it new?

Brett, the TV version we're talking about is the extended version of the theatrical film only shown on television, not the Sci-Fi miniseries

And thats what I'm talking about as well...Not the TV miniseries but the extended TV version of the 1984 David Lynch film credited to Alan Smithee that first came out in Japan as a very expensive DVD before it finally came out in the UK. Like the Theatrical version in DTS,Its released by Force video in Australia. As to its quality, I haven't had a chance to view it yet.I'm sure its the same as the UK release though. Its been out for at least a month now....Heres a link to the disc, http://www.ozdvdwhs.com.au/dvd/dvdpr...mt=1&pkey=3886

I'm going to assume this R4 extended version of Dune is in the 4:3 aspect ratio (or PAL fullscreen)? Still...I'm very intrigued by it. I guess I wasn't crazy when I heard there was a R4 version. [IMG]
    Thanks for the link Brett.
*Gulp* $22.50AU for shipping/handling fees. [IMG]

Theoretically yes. The back of the box and Force Video's web site provide no AR info tho

The R2 PAL DVD of the director's cut is a waste of money IMO. The picture quality is pretty damn mediocre (and that is being kind), and as mentioned above it is P&S.

Chad, but it is the best version available currently of the IMO superior Smithee cut

Well, that indeed might be true but the compositions are so horrible on the P&S version that I would have a hard time recommending it.

Also, the NTSC to PAL conversion is not so great. I watched it in native PAL on a friend of mine's projector and it was acceptable, but it's HORRIBLE if you have to convert it back to NTSC.

Chad, I plan on using my copy to create an "Ultimate Edition" so that I have widescreen for all but the added segments
