Can anyone direct me where I can find this kind of cable? I need to connect the component out from a progressive DVD player to a computer monitor that only has a VGA input. I think there must exist this type of cable because I see that a lot of older plasma TV only has this type of connectors, other than the S-Video and composite video input. If there isn't such a cable already for sale, what does it take to build one?

    Thanks,

I know it can be made, whether it functions correctly(?). Contact Brad Marcus at www.bettercables.com He can make this cable for a reasonable price.
Another question might be could one use an RGBHV to vga cable....using only the RGB plugs and leave the H and V unused and dangling? Something tells me that is possible.

    Hi Robin,

You didn't say what brand/model display it is.

Try keydigital.com and copperbox.com. They have such a device.

    Thanks,

    Errol

You also need a box in between with circuitry (a transcoder) to convert the component video to RGB, which VGA is, unless the monitor or DVD player has a selection (always manual) to do that transcoding. I do not know where to obtain the transcoder or how much you would have to spend.

Thanks for all your help. It looks like I would need to get the Componenet to VGA transcoder in order for this to work. Copperbox.com has the cheaper transcoder for sale. Would there be any quality differences between the one offered by copperbox and the one from keydigital?

    Thanks,

    Robin Chen

    Hi Robin,

Key Digital is the transcoder manufacturer. Copperbox is one of its distributors/reseller.

    Thanks,

    Errol
