Does anyone have a spare AV-15 they would consider selling? I have a DIY project I would like to get started but I am wanting to obtain the driver before I start. I have the 1000W AMP from PartsExpress...

I would also consider a 15" Titanic or equivilent...

Thanks,

Dallas

You might want to put the request under the FS/FT section of the forum, too. More people might see your desire for such a driver under that section. :)

Why not just buy the Titanic 15 MKIII from Parts Express? I'm building a sub with 2 of them for a customer. They appear to be very good quality units.

I really wanted the aluminum cone because I think it looks better. However, I am considering the Titanic as well and watching Ebay for potential bargains. There is currently a Titanic there for a little less than I could get one new from Parts Express.

Thanks,

I will buy a new AV12 woofer to replace the one that I dented and am currently using. Then I will put the dented one in the trunk of my car in a big ported box and blow people's hair around who are sitting in the car.

Okay, I may have found an AV-15 that someone will sell me but I am now wondering if 1000W is too much power. Is it, will it bottom out with a 1000W plate amp?

Thanks,

Dallas

I have asked John via a PM what the optimal amp size would be... do you happen to know?

Thanks,

If you plan on putting the AV-15 in a big ported enclosure, you do not need to run (and should not run ;)) 1000 watts.

I'm going to throw an AV-15 into a 200 liter sonotube with a low tune of 16Hz. I've found it quite tricky balancing adequate port area to excessive port velocities/lengths modeling this driver. With 500 watts into it, Unibox says the port velocity only becomes excessive below the 16Hz tune; and even then it's not too bad at 30 m/s. Max travel is 19 mm @ 24Hz, which should leave a little headroom safety margin.

It may seem that tuning so low will make the enclosure give up a lot of SPL higher up the scale, but I only saw a 1 dB or so loss compared to a 20Hz tune. Tuning lower moves the max port velocities lower as well; out of the range where the vast majority of the program material will fall.

I'm going to run a Rythmik 380-watt plate amp to this...it's a nice deal for $159.

Hi Dallas,

Make sure that the AV15 is coming from one of the good batches and not one that was rejected and sold by our supplier without our permission. There are some of those out there. Contact me and I can let you know more about the one you are getting.

As far as amplifier power goes, right around 500W is pretty much optimal. I have people putting them in vehicles in sealed boxes with 1000W with no problems, but in a vented box tuned so low you won't need that much. The Rythmik shoudl work well.
