I rarely listen to music at home; therefore, I wouldn't consider my self as an audiophile...or perfectionist. I plan to use the surround mainly for DvDs, and Gaming...XBOX! I don't need 7.1, but 6.1 would be good, heck even 5.1. I have been considering a Denon 3803 and a decent set of surround speakers. I don't want to spend more then say $2000.00 total. I currently have a 53" HDTV Panasonic TV Widescreen; so, that is taken care of for now anyway! I recently have been looking at the Yamaha products too and they really interest me too! I even like the YTH-941 system with 800 watts power. Would that suit my needs sufficiently? What are your thoughts? I would really like to stay below $1800.00 total.

Now I am even moe confused about which to get....the Onkyo TXNR-901 looks pretty hot too, at $1400.00 it won't break the bank either [IMG] So if I go the seperate receiver path, here are the choices:
    Denon 3803
    Onkyo TX-NR901
    Yamaha RxV3300

What do you think? Again, I will only be using this for watching DvDs and Xbox gaming....and occasionally music. I like everything from Metallica to some hip hop with bass. [IMG]

Denon 3803, 15" Velodyne Sub, fill in the speakers with JBL S-Series. 3 pair of S26II's run about $500....

Onkyo, Denon, and Yamaha are all quality products.

Go with a $400 retail yamaha v540 and good speakers. If you have a limit of $2000. Dont for get about cables. Cables cost alot and people forget about them in the budget. The most money you should spend is 800 on a Yamaha v1400. Get the Yamaha 2 ns-c444 center channels one front and one rear, ns-777 fronts, ns-333 surrounds, and the yst-sw315. Retail from bestbuy will run you $1780 for the v540 or $2080 for the 1400 plus you need another speaker. Keep in mind thats retail prices. Still that doesn't include your component cables, x-box compneny pack, speaker cable. Get some 12 gauge cable. Ty

Do you think the YTH-941 Home Theater in a box 800 WATTS would suit my needs? I guess I am just nervous about spending $1500.00 on a great receiver and have it shadowed by the fact that I don't want to spend $1000 on a set of premium speakers, you know what I mean. Down the road when I have my new house built with a specific room dedicated to a home theater set-up...I would consider spending serious money on speakers and the like but the room I have in mind now isn't exactly what you would call a great room for home theater...recreation room about 12 ft by 16ft with a 7ft ceiling [IMG]
