    Hello all!

I'm looking to upgrade my DVD player (currently using an unmodded Xbox) to connect to my new Sanyo Z1 16x9 LCD projector.

    Here's my prioritized wish list:
    1) progressive scan
    2) great picture quality
    3) price ($150 or less)
    4) all the standard connections
    5) VCD/SVCD playback (low priority)
    6) region hackable (low priority)

I was looking at the Toshiba SD-3900 for $99 as it seems to fit the bill but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Also, are there any Toshiba SD-3900 owners out there that would help me out with a quick review (I already searched and came up empty)? Thanks!

i read that the 3900 wasn't all that great of a player and to go with the 4800. A little more but it's worth it. Plus you get DVD-A capability.

I can tell you that the Sony NS725P is a fine progressive single disk player for $150. Very nice build quality and so far it's performed like a champ for me since I got it 2 months ago.

Do a search on "chroma bug". If you are going to project to a large size then it could be an issue you want to avoid. I believe both Toshiba players mentioned exhibit the chroma bug.
